The Scrub technician or the Certified scrub technician is a member of the surgical team who works with surgeons, anesthesia personnel, RNs, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during and after surgery procedures.
Strong Background in Orthopedic Surgery Required
A. Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures.
B. Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and their use in the surgery environment
C. Demonstrates knowledge of a scrub technician’s duties
D. Demonstrates knowledge of a scrub technician’s duties
E. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, center/service safety, and specific job‑related hazards.
F. Follows the center exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
G. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
H. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a center/unit team inter- and intracenter to facilitate the center’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
I. Maintains accurate documentation.
J. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Has an exceptional grasp of his/her skills. Uses a step by step procedure when assisting within the OR as well as preparing the OR. Able to anticipate patient and doctor’s needs before they become critical. Stays current in knowledge of surgical procedures and clinical competencies.

Is characterized by an abundant use of detail and thoroughness. Has an organization within their approach to the job that allows them to anticipate the needs of the physician and patient.
Mechanically Inclined
Understanding of design, structure and ability to use operating room tools. Able to anticipate and eliminate sources of trouble within the mechanical operations of surgical tools. Acting from an understanding and perception of the parts and interrelations of the surgical teams needs.
