Job Summary: A construction/flooring estimator evaluates project requirements related to flooring installations, prepares detailed cost estimates, and assists in the bidding process to secure contracts for flooring projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review architectural plans, specifications, and flooring requirements to understand project scope and materials needed.
- Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions and gather necessary measurements and details.
Cost Estimation:
- Use flooring estimating software and industry knowledge to calculate the costs of materials, labor, equipment, and additional expenses for flooring installations.
- Obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for flooring materials and services.
- Analyze pricing and negotiate with vendors to ensure cost-effectiveness while maintaining quality standards.
Bid Preparation:
- Prepare accurate and competitive bid proposals based on the cost estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and clients to finalize bid details and submit proposals within deadlines.
Material Selection and Procurement:
- Advise on suitable flooring materials based on project specifications, budget constraints, and performance requirements.
- Coordinate with suppliers to procure materials and ensure timely delivery to meet project schedules.
Communication and Coordination:
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, architects, and subcontractors to clarify project requirements and resolve any issues.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site meetings, and project progress meetings as required.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of cost estimates, bids, contracts, change orders, and other relevant documentation.
- Prepare reports and presentations to present cost estimates and proposals to stakeholders.
Quality Assurance:
- Conduct quality checks and inspections during flooring installations to ensure adherence to specifications and quality standards.
- Review completed projects to compare estimated costs with actual costs and identify opportunities for improvement.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated with advancements in flooring materials, installation techniques, and industry trends.
- Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance skills in flooring estimation and project management.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a flooring estimator or similar role in the construction or flooring industry.
- Strong knowledge of various flooring materials, installation methods, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in using flooring estimating software (e.g., Measure, RFMS) and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Education:
- Estimator knowledge is required. We will provide training to our flooring division program.
- A bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related field is preferred .
- Certification in flooring installation or estimating (e.g., Certified Flooring Estimator - CFE) may be advantageous.
