Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Essential Skills Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students who have developmental disabilities, autism, or hearing impairments. This position involves providing specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of each student in a public school setting.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Create positive and respectful relationships with students, staff, parents, administrators, and professional agencies who work on behalf of the student.
- Align and teach an adaptive or modified curriculum to grade level standards to students with intensive needs using curriculums such as Unique Learning System.
- Provides researched based specialized instruction to address the individual goals and objectives within a student's IEP.
- Teach self-help skills, daily living skills and pre-vocational skills during recess, lunch, toileting, hygiene, travel in and out of building and community outings.
- Assess student progress formally and informally to determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques
- Uses various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable student to meet their IEP goals.
- Develops and implements annual Individual Education Plans for students in include updated present levels of performance, special education needs instructional goals and objectives and special education related service required to meet goals.
- Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom and school campus during school activities through use of positive behavioral supports.
- Sets and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with school procedures.
- Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with student's team members to ensure progress toward goals and objectives, services and accommodations are provided and student is in the least restrictive environment.
- Provide lesson plans for paraprofessionals and provide ongoing mentoring and supervision.
- Participate in research based training and service as a team member, consultant and leader to the special education department, school support team and administration in the area of Special Education practices and procedures.
- Complies all district and state reporting requirements within mandated timeline.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education with focus on Intensive or Severe Disabilities
- Holds a valid Indiana Teaching License from the Department of Education with certification in Intensive or Severe Disabilities.

Pay: $43,000.00 - $71,000.00 per year
