Our Educational Aide will provide individual one-to-one behavioral support and to assist with the implementation of lesson plans for individual student(s).
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES
- High School diploma/GED required.
- One year working with children in child-care settings and/or academic or residential environments required.
- Demonstrated skills and abilities working with children, adolescents, and adults in individual and group situations.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities in general principles of child/adolescent development and childcare concepts and appropriate disciplinary techniques.
- Work experience with behavioral disorders, populations with learning differences, special education, mental health, and/or other direct service capacities preferred.
- Valid Virginia Drivers’ License and proof of insurance if assigned driver.
- Ability to drive agency vehicle and/or access to a personal vehicle for client transport.
- Satisfactory Driving Record if assigned driver.
- Ability to acquire First Aid, CPR Certification and Safety Care.
- Good oral, written, interpersonal, customer service skills and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to organize work effectively, maintain necessary documentation and meet agency and licensing paperwork requirements.
- Ability to maintain daily, weekly, and monthly documentation and submit to necessary parties according to agency and licensing guidelines.
- Serve as a mandated reporter.
- Basic computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office preferred.
- Ability to understand and relate to students with special needs.
- Knowledge of safe classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct.
- Ability to assist with implementing and providing behavior modification techniques.
- Ability to observe health and safety regulations.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to successfully clear required background checks (drug screen, fingerprint, criminal, etc).
- Ability to function as part of a multi-disciplinary educational and treatment team.
- Ability to work independently as needed to support the group effort.
- Physical ability to manage students as necessary.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions: May be required to perform any of the following duties:
- Provides behavioral support to assigned student(s) in accordance with the daily schedule, Individual Educational Plans (IEP’s), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP’s) and/or other individualized behavior protocols.
- Provides verbal redirection, prompting and/or removal of student from classroom.
- Monitors student to ensure that there is always an awareness of the student’s location and provides supervision.
- Implements BIP’s in accordance with program procedures and applicable licensing and accreditation standards.
- Assists in the implementation of lesson plans provided by instructional staff as appropriate to the age and ability level of the student.
- Assists student with staying on task and completing assignments.
- Assists in maintaining classroom supplies and equipment to assist instructional staff in implementing daily lesson plans, instructions, and activities.
- Inventories supplies and restocks from facility supplies as appropriate.
- Aids in maintaining student attendance by marking classroom rolls and reporting to office.
- Assists in grading of assignments using grading criteria developed by the instructional staff.
- Assists with school lunches by monitoring assigned student as well as assisting and monitoring lunchroom behavior.
- Participates in development of BIP’s and goals for students in program staff meetings and other related classroom meetings.
- Provides feedback on student progress, challenges, and incidents.
- Maintains assigned documentation related to student attendance, progress, and challenges on daily and interim student reports.
- Maintains assigned documentation in a timely and appropriate manner as required by licensing, agency, and accreditation standards.
- Accompanies students on field trips and other activities.
- Assists with instruction, monitors student behavior, and provides appropriate behavioral interventions.
- Applies behavior interventions appropriate to the situation such as verbal redirection, removal from stressful situation, and /or physical management according to individualized student behavioral protocols and program.
- Reports all student injuries, accidents, and illnesses to the administration of the school immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
- Attends all MINNICK SCHOOL meetings as required.
- Adheres to enCircle/MINNICK SCHOOL policies and procedures.
- Attends training and other educational functions as assigned.
- Communicates in a professional manner to parents, students, co-workers, and other professionals.
- Treats families and referring agencies with dignity and respect.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Work Hours: Monday-Friday 8:10am -3:00pm
