Summary: The Grounds Supervisor is responsible for supervising all operations related to the turf branch of the grounds department with guidance from the Director of Grounds.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED)

Work with Assistant Director of Grounds to coordinate all aspects of the grounds team and their responsibilities.

Schedules and supervises the maintenance of all assigned areas throughout the park.

Ability to operate all equipment needed to efficiently perform ground duties.

Develops and executes a daily, weekly and monthly plan for mowing and maintenance of all assigned areas throughout the park.

Monitors and evaluates all areas throughout the park to ensure grounds maintenance is consistent with all other contracted and other labor responsible for grounds care in the park

Manages all zones assigned and ensures all detail work is complete and finished before starting the maintenance of new zone.

Skill in resolving day-to-day questions/problems regarding equipment, materials, methods, and procedures needed to complete projects.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all park staff, vendors, and the public.

Basic understanding of mechanical operation of all equipment and ability to communicate to mechanic and repairs or maintenance needed.

Document and log all work completed and any equipment or damage related.

Develop and implement a plan for rain events and managing park grounds care accordingly

Assist with street cleaning, drain clearing and other non-turf care tasks as needed.

Develop and execute a plan for winter projects such large brush clearing, maintenance of non-turf areas and other projects as assigned.

Supports and actively promotes New Orleans City Park’s safety programs.

Performs field inspections to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.

Investigates and responds to customer complaints promptly and tactfully.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions

Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques

Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and group situations.

Removes or reports any graffiti, trash, branches, or other debris that needs removal throughout the park.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate with Assistant Director regarding interviewing, hiring and discipline of assigned team members and complete proper documentation accordingly.

Conducts performance reviews for assigned team members.

Performs field inspections to ensure completion of team member tasks.

Assists with resolving day-to-day questions/problems regarding equipment, materials, methods, and procedures needed to complete projects.

Skill in scheduling and prioritizing manpower and projects.

Competently and efficiently directs staff in daily objectives and tasks.

Supervise and train staff in all aspects of grounds care and maintenance.

Issue equipment and supplies to staff.

Ensure all equipment is clean and undamaged at the end of the day and properly stored and put away.

Ensures that all personnel in the group adheres to and understands all park policies and follows guidelines related to PPE, safety and other information related to day-to-day operations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Active and Unrestricted Driver’s License

3 years or more of work related to grounds maintenance and custodial duties.

Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Familiarity with cloud and app-based software.
