Primary Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing, assists in directing the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide health care and nursing services to residents on a 24 hour, 7 day per week basis
Essential Job Functions
1. Plans, develops and supervises the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide health care and nursing services
2. Assists with the development and implementation of nursing services objectives, policies and procedures in accordance with Federal and State regulations
3. Assists in the selection of nursing staff, completes employee evaluations and resolves problems involving employees
4. Shares responsibility for covering Unit Managers and Nursing Supervisors on a 24 hours per day, 7 day per week basis. Performs the duties of the Director of Nursing in his/her absence
5. Oversees the clinical operations (i.e. monitoring resident conditions, psychopharmacological drugs, restraint use, foley catheters, pressure ulcers, infection control, etc.) of the Nursing Departments
6. Assists in the design, implementation and evaluation of nursing systems that ensure consistent delivery of care and maintains and promotes resident rights
7. Conducts nursing rounds on all units several times a day, including the beginning and end of shift
8. Assists the DON in the development, implementation and evaluation of facility policies, procedures and guidelines on an annual and on-going basis (i.e. nursing, pharmacy, lab, physicians, medical records, etc.)
9. Ensures that residents are free from abuse, mistreatment and neglect
Skills/Knowledge:
1. Excellent communication and management skills
2. Ability to write legibly and read and understand the English language sufficiently to perform the duties of the position
3. Ability to demonstrate organized, disciplined approach to completing work and to build and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
4. Skills necessary to operate computer
5. Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and provide care appropriate to the age and special needs of patient served
Education:
1. Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
Experience:
1. Five (5) years of responsible registered nursing experience
2. SNF/LTC leadership Experience
License/Certification:
1. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Hawaii
