Job Title: Inpatient Facility Medical Coder
Location: Remote (Candidate must live in Washington State or Oregon)
Position Description:
The Inpatient Facility Medical Coder will play a critical role in our organization by independently and efficiently assigning accurate diagnosis and procedure codes to patients' health information records. This responsibility covers various settings, including Emergency Department (ED), Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC), Hospital Ambulatory Surgical Center (HAS), Observations (OBS), and Inpatient (IP) records. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in inpatient facility coding, advanced knowledge of coding systems, and a certification in health information management or medical coding. This position is remote and requires candidates to reside in Washington State or Oregon.
Non-Negotiable Requirements:
- Minimum five (5) years experience in coding with four (4) years inpatient facility coding:
- The candidate must possess one of the following certifications:
- Registered Health Information Technician Certificate
- Certified Coding Specialist
- Registered Health Information Administrator Certificate
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, and medical coding principles for ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS/CPT coding systems.
- Advanced Knowledge of Disease Processes and Procedures: Proficient in disease processes, diagnostic and surgical procedures, as well as ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS/CPT classification systems. Must also have a deep understanding of health information/medical record department responsibilities, including government regulations and areas of scrutiny for potential fraud and abuse issues.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Statistical Analysis Skills: Ability to evaluate, analyze, and develop information regarding mathematical statistics and percentages to identify trends and outcomes related to productivity and medical record audits.
