Mission:
Woodside on the Move, Inc. (WOTM) is a grassroots community organization dedicated to making Woodside and Queens a better place to live, work and to do business. We help to organize tenant associations, lead advocacy, provide direct services for affordable housing, youth development, senior services, the arts, and cultural programs. We also provide support to our business community. WOTM is committed to improving the community and seeking new possibilities to keep Woodside and Queens moving toward a better, affordable, safer, and prosperous future.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in either Social Science, Sociology, Human Services, Social Work or a related field.
- Work experience of 5+ years can be substituted for education.
- 3+ years of professional experience in case management and/ or counseling in affordable housing, housing development or real estate management.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge regarding the following:
- Rent Regulations
- Access to rent history
- Eviction prevention
- MCIs and IAIs
- Housing Court
- Enrollment and Benefits in programs such as SCRIE, HEAP, DRIE, etc.
- Ability to write and record client case notes to properly document client services.
- Existing career focus in affordable housing development and systems transformation and/or community advocacy.
- Experience leading engagement processes, workshops, and training in housing to staff and the community.
- Has an understanding of Federal, City and State housing programs and subsidies.
- Moderate or advanced knowledge of placed-based housing.
- Possesses knowledge and skills necessary to develop strong connections with State, City, and private housing agencies, as well as the ability to secure permanent housing for clients seeking housing assistance.
- Must be computer-literate and must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Google Suite.
- Strong application and usage of spreadsheets using Excel and/or Google Sheets.
Scope of position:
Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Senior Housing Case Manager is responsible for implementing the goals of the Direct Services Team, which is to provide direct housing casework services to clients. The Senior Housing Case Manager will oversee the intake/ distribution of cases, referrals, overall caseload status and progress as well as client follow-ups. The team will include an Administrative Coordinator, approximately three Housing Case Managers (can be more) and interns ( seasonally). Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Case work - 40%
- Manages and works through an established caseload.
- Assesses clients’ needs and develops an individualized plan to secure safe and permanent housing and/or eligibility for social services.
- Assist clients in completing housing applications and helps to process applications such as; Housing Connect, SCRIE, DRIE, One-Shot Deal, Section 8 and all other housing programs that may be relevant.
- Works closely with State and City-Agencies such as, but not limited to; the Department of Finance (DOF), Human Resources Administration (HRA), Department of Social Services (DSS), and community-based organizations that help to provide housing assistance.
- Ability to research rent history in order to assess any rent payment discrepancies if needed, by processing proper requests to New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR).
- Helps to support clients in navigating entitlement and benefit programs.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
- Strategy + Reports - 35%
- Confers with the Senior Deputy Director of Programs to help identify, plan and develop methods and procedures for greater work productivity and efficiency.
- Provides direct supervision of a team of approximately 3-5 Housing Case Managers to support, and guide current caseloads.
- Provide housing related material/information for communication purposes to our Housing Direct Services Team.
- Maintains and oversees all data collection regarding outcomes of cases and general information for internal and external reports.
- Perform administrative duties as required, including monthly output/outcome reports.
- Participate in on-going training and professional development opportunities.
- As appropriate, attend case management meetings with collaborative and other community partners.
- Works closely with the Organizing team to provide information, and updates regarding current housing trends.
- Community Resources - 25%
- Develop and maintain a database of resources, including a listing of brokers, landlords, and management companies, Community-Based Organizations, Community Partners and any other institution that provides resources to assist community members.
- Network with community service providers to identify programs and resources that will increase client support.
- Engage in community outreach efforts to identify housing opportunities and/ or provide housing resources.
- Participate in meetings with prospective brokers and landlords.
- Responsible for ensuring a safe, caring environment for clients of WOTM.
- Support a team-based environment that motivates and inspires team members to work collaboratively toward team’s goals, meet and exceed established performance goals, and improve client outcomes.
- Ability to travel to events as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant professional experience in community affairs, working with diverse low-income and elderly populations.
- Experience with landlord and tenant mediation.
- Experience in public policy, urban planning, economic development, or affordable housing.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Interested in being part of a dynamic team.
- Positive, energetic individual who enjoys life and likes to laugh and have fun while working.
- Is a self-starter, problem solver and amazing team player.
- Bilingual, Spanish preferred.

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday thru Friday, Some weekends and evenings if necessary.
