CRISP Shared Services (CSS) serves as the designated Health Information Exchange (HIE) for Maryland and Washington, D.C., with affiliates in West Virginia, Connecticut, Alaska and Virginia. CSS facilitates the electronic transfer of clinical information between disparate information systems in order to positively impact the healthcare system through improved patient care and outcomes, reduced costs, and data-driven understanding of regional public health concerns.
Job Summary
The Data Analyst will support a full range of data needs for CRISP Reporting Services (CRS) and multiple HIT stakeholders. The successful candidate will work to design, develop, and maintain a data analytics platform solution. CRISP Shared Services (CSS) is currently running an Azure Data Lake 2 / Azure Data Factory / Spark / Databricks infrastructure consolidating streams of healthcare data. This role will primarily focus on the creation of new use cases through Databricks queries including communication, technical proficiency, collaboration, and willingness to learn new things. The Data Analyst will work with multiple curated datasets, building complex queries for critical healthcare outputs and provide validation skills to ensure the information provided to users is accurate and complete. The role will require interaction with external data submitters, CRS team, other CSS team members, and data consumers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Master a variety of data sets to evaluate feasibility of reporting initiatives and to support ad-hoc data requests
- Support data integration by defining requirements, streamlining processes, promoting transparency, and developing complex logic
- Enhance and automate data and reporting processes
- Perform data analysis in Databricks utilizing SQL to identify factors to be considered in future reports, provide historical trend analytics, and supply requested metrics
- Provide administrative support of CRS initiatives such as coordination, development, quality assurance, documentation, background research and deployment of reports
- Process healthcare ad-hoc queries within the extensive CSS healthcare data lake
- Design and develop reports using visualization tools
- Fully understand and document the nature of CSS many sources of data
- Work with other analysts and data engineers to improve data quality
- Communicate analysis findings and interpretation of results to data requesters in meetings, presentations and over email
- Participate in CRS team and project meetings to provide status updates, receive new assignments and communicate blockers or findings

- Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Databricks/Pyspark/Python experience
- SQL expertise – Intermediate
- Demonstrated experience in testing and evaluation of work products
- Ability to initiate and follow through on multiple tasks across several projects
- Possession and demonstration of flexibility, creativity, and good judgment
- Data visualization proficiency, PowerBi and/or Tableau preferred
- An understanding of how healthcare data is used in the field
- Familiarity with Maryland healthcare industry and key stakeholders preferred
Experience and/or Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in public health and/or health information technology, or a data intensive field
- 3+ years of relevant work experience with data-oriented projects
- Experience working with healthcare clinical data, administrative claims or informatics a plus
