JOB OVERVIEW:
The Staff Nurse will work with the Medical Director and Associate Medical Director to ensure constant quality of patient care, and the smooth operation of the entire Center. This is achieved by promoting teamwork among all clinical and clerical staff members.
RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Establishes and maintains an environment that promotes and supports professional practice.

Determines that approved standards of patient care and nursing practice are utilized in all areas providing nursing care.

Serves as a role model in leadership abilities, applications of principles of teaching, management and effective communication.

Oversees ongoing Quality Assessment & Performance Improvement activities.

Assures Environment of Care programs are accomplished.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

Full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods of time. Some bending, lifting, and stooping required.

Normal color perception and normal or corrected visual acuity.

Hearing normal, or corrected to normal range.

Manual dexterity to operative keyboard, calculator, and photocopier.

Involvement with scheduling, management of information, physicians, staff, hospital personnel, and patients. Occasional high stress work may require dealing with angry, demanding patients and/or personnel.

DUTIES AND TASKS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:Clinical Supervision

Aids staff members in functioning according to the responsibilities of their positions.

Maintains a working relationship with physicians and staff.

Communicates relevant information to physicians and staff to maintain continuity of care.

Promotes smooth interaction with office staff and fosters good relations.

Oversees policies and procedures, ensuring compliance to Center, State, Medicare, and Accreditation requirements.

Communicates pertinent information to Medical Director.

Promotes staff development by identifying individual and group learning needs and by providing informal learning experiences.

Oversees the orientation program for new nursing personnel.
-
Provides input into annual staff evaluations, and skills and competency assessments of clinical staff.
-
Delegates adequate authority to clinical staff to properly perform assigned responsibilities.
-
Performs other duties as required by the Medical Director.

Serves as a member of Quality Improvement Committee, compiles QAPI data and shares responsibility for QAPI compliance for the Center.
-
Ensures that facility safety checks are performed monthly.
-
Acts as, or oversees the Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with the Environment of Care programs.
-
Ensures environmental and electrical safety policies are followed.
-
Ensures standard precautions and the OSHA program are followed.
-
Ensures on-going compliance with accreditation readiness policies and functions as the Accreditation Coordinator in conjunction with the Medical Director.
-
Participates in on-going educational opportunities related to position, ensuring professional growth for herself/himself, the staff, and the Center as a whole.

Oversees compliance with Urology Health Surgery Center policies.
PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES/SAFETY/INFECTION CONTROL:

Responsible for ensuring accurate records of patient care.
-
Oversees all Performance Improvement activities.
-
Ensures standards of fire safety, environmental safety and Infection control are met.
-
Evaluates the Planning, implementation, and critiquing of the quarterly fire drills and mock code blue drills.

Requirements:
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Licensing: Possess a valid Pennsylvania Registered Nurse License
2-4 years clinical expertise in urological surgical nursing preferred
Equivalent of two (2) years experience in monitoring surgical or critical care nursing
BLS certification
Ability to deal compassionately, professionally, and courteously with patients, their families, physicians, and fellow Urology Health Surgery Center staff.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Ability to collect data for trending and benchmarking as well as provide or oversee submission of related documentation to the Board of Directors in spreadsheet and graph form.
