Join an established team of professionals who are dedicated to enabling students to acquire the skills, information and experiences needed to thrive in their careers. This position provides career education, programming, and coaching to help students formulate and pursue their post-bachelors graduation path. The coach will enhance student career readiness by preparing students for full-time employment and transitioning to a professional workplace. This individual will also work with A&S departments as a liaison and facilitator to better connect A&S undergraduate programs with events and resources available at both the College and campus level. As we move to better differentiate career resources for our diverse set of A&S majors, we are particularly interested in candidates with a background in either the humanities and fine/performing arts -or- in the science/math fields.
Primary responsibilities include:
Student Advising and Outreach
- Provide individual and small group student coaching for holistic career exploration and development including internship and job search processes
- Conduct post-graduation bridge year planning
- Develop and present employment and career readiness presentations to classes and groups
- Create, implement, and maintain a strategic communication plan in coordination with the Dean's Communications team to promote A & S, campus services, and resources
- Develop career resources specifically focused on career readiness of liberal arts majors
- Utilize existing technologies and platforms creating scalable career readiness programs and interventions
Recruitment Activities
- Promote career activities and employment opportunities using Handshake career management platform and other communication tools
- Plan, coordinate, and promote career events and programming including the bi-annual CAFNR/A & S Internship and Career Fair
- Participate in A & S recruitment, summer orientation activities, and Dean's office student events
Partnerships and Collaboration
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to share career information
- Communicate with key stakeholders (advisors, undergraduate student directors) about services, programs, and recruitment opportunities
- Meet regularly with key campus stakeholders including Undergraduate Research, Fellowships & Advanced Studies, and Honors College
- Attend MU Career Services Council and Career Leadership Council meetings representing the College
This position is located in Lowry Hall.
Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualification
- Experience in career services, counseling/advising/coaching, recruitment, human resources, or related area.
- Working knowledge of career development best practices.
- Background in either the humanities and fine/performing arts -or- in the science/math fields.
