The Julia L. Butterfield Memorial Library in the Village of Cold Spring, NY is seeking applicants for the (currently) part-time position of Children's Programmer. This position will report to the Library Director.
General Duties and Responsibilities: This position plays a vital role in providing library services and programming tailored specifically for children and their families. The ideal candidate will possess a deep appreciation for children's literature, a commitment to fostering literacy and learning, and the ability to create engaging and educational experiences for young patrons.
- Previous experience working with children in a library or educational setting preferred
- Demonstrates knowledge, management, use and appreciation of children’s literature, digital media, and other materials that contribute to a diverse, current, and relevant children’s collection.
- Tech savvy; comfortable with staying on top of the latest trends and learning new platforms
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, caregivers, and colleagues
- Demonstrated creativity and innovation in developing and implementing STEAM programming to pre-school population through elementary school age
- Actively participates in community outreach and summer reading programming
- Plans and conducts baby through preschool story times for both small and large groups incorporating music, props, finger plays and movement with an age-appropriate selection of materials
- Plans and conducts programming for elementary age children in response to library patron or seasonal needs, with consideration of developmental stages and interests.
- Assists library patrons, primarily children and their parents, in finding materials, answering reference questions, and providing reader’s advisory in a friendly, efficient, and engaged manner
- Models exemplary patron service to children and their caregivers that is culturally respectful and developmentally appropriate.
- Keeps informed of Library trends and shares new opportunities and ideas with staff.
- Keeps informed of and seeks out grant funding for programs and materials
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with the ability to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all patrons
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision
- Other duties as assigned
Special Requirements: Work schedule potentially includes one night a week (8 pm close) and one Saturday or Sunday every other week. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by program and service schedules. Ability to travel occasionally to other sites in the community and surrounding area.
Pay Rate: $17 - $18 depending on experience
