The Westchester County Department of Laboratories and Research (L&R), located in Valhalla, NY, has an immediate opening for a Senior Lab Technician.
Under direct supervision of professional laboratory personnel, an incumbent in this class performs non-instrumental and instrumental methods of analysis, on biological fluids and tissues, in the fields of Forensic and Clinical Toxicology in the Department of Labs and Research. Incumbents prepare solutions and reagents, maintain equipment in accordance with established procedures, and assist higher level laboratory personnel in complex analyses.
Examples of Work:
Performs non-instrumental and instrumental methods of analysis of tissues and biological fluids of a routine nature for toxicological purposes.
Ensures compliance to standard laboratory practices in maintenance and cleanliness of work areas and instrumentation to ensure safe working conditions.
Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Either: (a) an Associate's degree* in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Toxicology, Biology, or closely related field, which must have included at least twelve credit hours in chemistry or chemistry related courses and three years of technical laboratory experience within the last five years; or (b) a Bachelor's Degree* in Chemistry, Toxicology, Biology, or closely related field, which must have included twelve credit hours in chemistry or chemistry related courses and one year of technical laboratory experience within the last five years.
