JOB SUMMARY:
The lead pastor of Great Lakes Church is the public-facing guide of this Body of Christ, and this individual will have four primary duties: Sunday morning liturgy and preaching, pastoral care, vision casting and directional decision making on a comprehensive level, and administrative tasks. We are looking for a candidate with spiritual maturity reflecting the character of Christ in both their private and public life. This individual must demonstrate the God-given abilities to communicate meaning and insight from Scripture in a way that connects with the GLC congregation and effectively leads to learning, understanding, and transformation, and who is sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. The pastor will work closely with the Guidance Team of GLC as a voting member of the GT in the directional decision-making process. This is a part-time paid position estimated at 20 hours per week.
WEEKLY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) SUNDAY PREACHING AND LITURGY (10-12 hours per week)
The pastor will manage the preaching/teaching schedule and sermon series decisions. While the pastor will rightly preach at the most regular frequency, they are encouraged and expected to engage other guest speakers to preach from the GLC platform as well. The pastor will plan and lead the Sunday liturgy, collaborating with the worship team director, and ensuring that services are meaningful and spiritually enriching encounters with the presence of God.
2) PASTORAL CARE (3 hours per week)
As the face of GLC, the pastor will accept the role of pastoral care, both in their preaching, presence in the lobby, and verbal check ins. The pastor will provide spiritual leadership and pastoral care to the congregation, fostering a culture of compassion, love, and kinship. This does not mean the pastor will have to field every pastoral care need, but rather that they will be the point person, and coordinate with the leadership to ensure proper pastoral care is offered to the congregation where and when needed. The leadership can and will share the burden of checking in on those in need of prayer, visitation, etc.
3) DIRECTIONAL DECISION MAKING (3 hours per week)
Together with the GT, the pastor will help steer GLC forward into the future with a directional vision, and a missional mindset, and by setting personal and professional goals to work towards growth. The pastor will carefully discern the movements of the Holy Spirit already at work at GLC and will work with church leadership to cast a spiritual/communal vision and execute a strategic plan for the church’s health and leadership development. The pastor will hold a voting position on the GT and will be expected to weigh in with their opinion as every other GT member would be welcome to.
4) ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS (3 hours per week)
The pastor will be expected to maintain timely communication on our organizational software, Basecamp. They will provide design feedback, input, and direction to our marketing team for sermon and branding visuals and coordinate the church-wide calendar across ministries and events.
