Outside Regional Sales Manager
Position Title: Outside Sales (Regional Sales Manager)
Reports to: VP of Sales
Works with: Existing and Prospective Customers, Distributors, Field Representatives, Inside Sales, Engineering, Accounting, Service, Marketing, and Senior Management
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Purpose: Responsible for the sale of products in the midwest geographic area and provide ongoing support and direction to distributors. Maintain current customer business; find new business through new business channels and foster relationships to grow the network. States to cover: Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan.
Responsibilities:
- Become entrenched in assigned areas to look for new opportunities.
- Directly call on national accounts, contractors, engineering firms and large rental houses.
- Get to know service departments and sales departments to match their needs and capabilities to our products.
- Participate in related associations to gain exposure.
- Learn the competition.
- Seek new markets in addition to traditional distribution networks.
- Work with distributors representing our products to keep our products in the forefront of their product offerings.
- Provide product and sales training, include product details, warranty policy and company culture to new distributors within a month of their arrival.
- Develop an annual sales plan for each distributor and each field representative.
- Build relationships with distributors and representatives through ride-alongs, and consistent communication to increase our product exposure.
- Ensure distributors and representatives are informed of marketing outreach efforts and work synergistically to capitalize on a coordinated effort to increase market penetration.
- Be a liaison; assist distributors with communication to our production, engineering and service departments.
- Make sales presentations to fleet managers, rental houses and other prospective customers. Work with marketing to develop presentations.
- Fulfill promises of quotes and specifications in a prompt and professional manner. Follow up on all fulfilled requests.
- Provide documentation of efforts.
- Weekly quote report.
- Concurrently communicate lost sales and participate in analysis.
- Develop an annual business plan for each representative and dealer.
- Track consignments for respective territory.
- Report on sales compared to forecast.
- Complete call reports on a regular basis.
- Submit expense reports in a timely and complete fashion.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Degree in Business, Marketing or communications and at least three years of field sales experience in an industrial field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in the air compressor industry is preferred.
- The ability to develop and coordinate project plans, communicate changes and progress and manage sales activities.
- The ability to speak clearly and persuasively in small and large group settings. Ability to understand and communicate technical, mechanical and electrical information.
- Must have the ability to operate in a fully implemented ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) environment and requisite computer skills include Microsoft Office Suite, and CRM software.
- Must have accurate and efficient keyboarding skills, proficiency in the Internet including the ability to send and receive emails including attachments.
- Must be tenacious, take initiative, work independently and be a team player.
- Must possess the skill to approach others in a tactful manner, react well under pressure, treat others with respect and consideration regardless of their status.
- Must be able and willing to travel a substantial (75%) amount of time domestically. Must be able travel via commercial airlines, trains and drive a car.
- The worker is required to travel where products are used, which may include nuclear power plants, mines and industrial or construction environments. Must be willing to undergo any safety training required by the (prospective) customer.
