Registered Nurse
Reports to: Manager and/or Doctors
Position Summary: To act as patient advocate, providing continuity of care designed to meet individual patient needs through collaboration with other members of the health care team at the Practice. Will ensure quality care to the individual patients during, and recovering from, surgery.
Job Classification: Non-exempt
Qualifications:
· Graduation from a nursing program, A.S. or B.S. preferred.
· Current California R.N. license.
· Current CPR and ACLS certification.
· Full command of spoken and written English.
· High degree of organizational skills.
· Demonstrates ability to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day.
· Demonstrates ability to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds.
· Demonstrates ability to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.
Interpersonal Skills:
· Must be consistently alert to changing conditions requiring immediate attention.
· Must use comprehensive judgment in making decisions related to channeling of communications.
· Neat, professional appearance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move patients, with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
Duties:
· All interactions with, and in front of, patients are to be conducted with the utmost respect, courtesy, and professionalism. Every effort is to be made to ensure that the patients' needs are attended to in a manner consistent with delivering excellent customer service.
· Review daily schedule AM & PM to assure that proper medications are available.
· Open surgical suites - check for adequate supplies, equipment, and cleanliness. Draw up medications as needed, turn on gases.
· Escort patients to surgical area confirming information as to allergies, NPO status, medication needs, and driver in a friendly, reassuring manner. Verify that consents have been signed.
· Prepare patient for anesthesia. Apply monitors (B.P., oximeter, EKG, O2), safety belt, secure arms, start I.V., administer ordered pre-op drugs while evaluating patient's level of consciousness. Keep airway clear. Signal doctor.
· Closely monitor patient, maintain airway and notify doctor of any changes in patient status, follow orders given.
· Discontinue monitors, transport patient to recovery area, once airway is established, and position patient safely.
· Apply pulse oximeter and continue to monitor patient.
· Chart patient’s anesthesia record (vitals, times, drugs and amounts), prescriptions, post-op visits, and initial. Print out monitor tape.
· Assess the patient and dismiss making sure gauze is clean and changed, I.V. removed, patient is alert, oriented, and has printed post-op instructions and appointments.
· Maintain crash cart ensuring that all appropriate medications are available and current, all equipment is available and in operating order.
· Assist with coordination of emergency drills (fire, natural disaster, medical).
· Comply with OSHA and all other federal and state requirements and health and safety regulations.
· Order medications, keep inventory of drugs (including maintenance of Narcotic Log, daily room and narcotic cabinet counts). Secure medication inventory at the end of each day after count has been performed and signed off by 2 RNs or 1 R.N. and 1Assistant.
· Be willing and able to assist surgical and clerical staff when warranted.
