We are looking for a Cytotechnologist to join our team in Wilson, NC! Compensation is based on experience level. Great position for either experienced cytotechs or newly graduated cytotechs!
This is a full-time 9am-5pm work schedule, but we can be flexible with scheduling needs! This position is responsible for screening and reporting cytology specimens in a timely and accurate manner. This position also maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, conference and professional affiliation.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
· Performs primary screening of Gynecological and Non-gynecological samples. Renders interpretation with appropriate comments in accordance with established department reporting procedures.
· Performs Quality Control screening as part of regular work; if eligible.
· Maintains daily record of slides screened/hours worked at Palm Beach Pathology and slides screened/hours worked for any other outside employer per procedure manual.
· Maintains open communication with department supervisor, pathologists, and co-workers to ensure optimal operation of the department.
· Provides technical consultation for cyto-processing technicians, assists them if possible or directs them to a more knowledgeable employee.
· Maintains high level of proficiency and current knowledge through continuing education seminars, conferences and professional affiliations.
· Complies with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
· Supports corporate policies and objectives, complies with quality assurance, safety and environmental and infection control protocols.
· Maintains microscope in working condition by performing routine maintenance (documenting on appropriate form), to include general cleaning, troubleshooting and reporting irregularities in operations with appropriate follow up.
Job Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Ability to evaluate Gyn and Non-Gyn cellular material using established morphologic criteria.
· Experience with Hologic Imaging system screening imaged slides.
· Ability to complete 24 credit hours of continuing education every two years.
· Ability to maintain the necessary levels of confidentiality to protect client/patient’s privacy and proprietary organizational information.
Education/Experience
· Two years college with at least 12 semester hours in science, 8 of which are biology, plus one year cytology technical training (from CAHEA accredited school). OR
· Bachelor of Science, plus one year cytology technical training (from a CAHEA accredited school).
· Must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Registry.
· Cytotechnologists may be hired immediately upon graduation from a CAHEA accredited school of Cytotechnology. They must be eligible for certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Registry. It is preferred that the registry be taken prior to employment. If failure to pass the registry occurs the Cytotechnologist will be expected to retake the exam within the time frame set forth by the ASCP (only 2 consecutive attempts will be allowed).
· Cytotechnologists are eligible to do Quality Control rescreen after 3 years of continuous experience with Medical Director approval.
