Advanced Equipment, Maintenance, Service & Repair is a locally owned, S Corporation in Virginia that has been in business for (30) years. We are engaged in sales, service and repair of standby generator systems and automatic control switches.
We maintain all makes and models of generator systems and provide clients with planned maintenance programs, equipment repairs and load bank testing. We provide both new and replacement equipment and retrofit packages for our clients.
We are a certified factory dealer for Cummins ONAN equipment.

Position Description
Essential Job Responsibilities: Manage and monitor planned preventative maintenance program involving monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, bi-annual and tri-annual services. Program includes standard industry practices, manufacturer and NFPA 110 requirements. Equipment maintained include all makes and models sized 10KW to 2000KW and all types of automatic transfer and bi-pass switches.
Manage repairs, retrofits and upgrades to standby generators, automatic transfer switches and other power distribution equipment.
Supervise commission of new customer equipment and modernization of existing equipment installations.
Ability to interpret and apply manufacturers repair manuals, technical specifications and bulletins, schematics and engineering drawings and diagnostic fault codes to identify faulty equipment and make repairs.
Supervise field and diesel technicians in maintenance, repairs, testing and commissioning new equipment.
Provide in depth training for field technicians in performance of duties in troubleshooting and repair of faulty equipment. Attention to detail and motivation to set examples required to maintain high work ethic.
Provide safety training on proper use of tools and electrical test equipment. Training to include EPA regulations, safe disposal of used fluids and parts and OSHA standards.
Thorough understanding of diesel and gaseous engines to include CAT, MTU, Cummins, Kohler, Detroit Diesel, John Deere and other equipment.
Evaluate new or old equipment requiring upgrades or retrofit of equipment to identify equipment conditions, additional maintenance required and repair costs.
Responsible for day to day operations of technicians delegating and directing all service tasks, monitoring progress on projects and managing service crews to assure work assignments are completed on time and in high quality.
Audit service work and customer services to ensure the company’s high standards, efficiency and productivity goals are met.
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of electrical systems 12-24 VDC in electrical control systems and understanding of 120-1280 VAC systems and automatic transfer switches.
Working knowledge and understanding of equipment mechanical systems.
Thorough knowledge of systems to include procedures, methods and techniques to design, install, repair and maintenance for generator engines, controls, fuel systems, exhaust, ducting and monitoring (local and remote). Working knowledge of power logic controls for generator and other associated electronic equipment. Knowledge of diesel, natural and propane gaseous combustion engines. Ability to use variety of standard and unique tools and equipment to perform routine engine maintenance and ability to perform upper engine overhauls.
Thorough knowledge of switch gear equipment and dual parallel operations; and local and centralized power distribution equipment including automatic transfer switches.
Required Skills/Abilities: Maintain records and files, prepare reports and approve orders for supplies and parts.
Forecasts manpower, parts and equipment inventory for annual budgets. Provide solutions to improve work techniques and productivity to increase profit margins.
Interpersonal Relationships: Lead and train personnel with guidance to perform duties with attention to detail and motivation. Set example for respect to high work ethic, responsibility and integrity.
Create a positive environment that is fair, inclusive and ethical to work in.
Judgement and Decision Making: Use logic and reasoning to understand, analyze and evaluate situations; to resolve issues and improve operations.
Time and Project Management: Able to plan and organize daily work. Enables priorities for completion of work by sound management decisions. Establishes strict adherence to schedule completion dates to set examples for all technicians to follow.
Communication: Communicate ideas effectively, including reports. Ability to listen and understand directions, and information verbally and in writing.
Accountability: Strong attention to detail with high degree of accuracy. Set examples for technicians to follow that will increase accountability of the work force.
Industry Knowledge: Maintain a solid working knowledge of industry regulations, restrictions, and new equipment changes and improvement in design.
Responsible for maintaining after hour and weekend 24/7 emergency calls by technicians and assist in difficult or problem repairs. Answering service is used for after hour, holiday and weekend monitoring calls.
Provide written and verbal annual technician evaluations.
Provide hands-on instruction for maintenance, troubleshooting and testing activities. Training includes computerized and in-class instruction by Cummins/ONAN Factory personnel, safety meetings and OSHA standard training.
Desired Experience: Previous work history of management and/or supervisory duties involving generator maintenance, repairs and testing for large labor force.
Eight to twelve years experience as a generator field technician or diesel mechanic.
Strong ability in troubleshooting and critical repairs of faulty generator equipment.
Must have computer skills, customer care experience, quality control experience and leadership capabilities.
