Maintenance Assistant
Born Free USA seeks a Maintenance Assistant for its Primate Sanctuary located near Cotulla, Texas. The Maintenance Assistant supports the Facilities Manager in ensuring that the 175-acre site is well-maintained and the physical infrastructure, encompassing grounds, buildings, vehicles, equipment, and animal enclosures is in good repair.
The position requires experience in a majority of the following skills/trades.
- Fence repair and installation.
- Plumbing
- Light welding
- Carpentry
- Electrical
- Operation and maintenance of small equipment (e.g. power tools, mowers) and large equipment (e.g. tractor, trencher)
- General building repair and maintenance
- Automotive repair and maintenance
In addition to the above skills, a successful employee will:
- Complete tasks fully, accurately, and on time.
- Adhere to excellent workplace safety and company protocols.
- Show up for work on all scheduled days and on time.
- Graciously follow directions and accept learning opportunities.
- Contribute to a positive, professional, and team-oriented workplace.
- Respond to emergencies in the evenings or on weekends when needed.
- Have basic computer skills.
Born Free USA is an animal protection organization. The Primate Sanctuary is home to rescued monkeys who have come from abusive and neglectful situations. All employees must demonstrate respect and compassion for all animals and the company’s ethics on animal welfare.
This job requires physical labor for up to eight hours each day, outside in all weather conditions and ability to lift up to 80 pounds without assistance.
Candidates must be fluent in English, be able to lawfully work in the United States, have a valid driver license, and own vehicle.
This is a full-time permanent position. Regular working hours are Monday-Friday from 7:00am-4:00pm. Pay is $15/hour. Born Free USA’s benefits package includes health insurance, paid time off, and a 401K with employer matching. Employment is subject to successful completion of a background check.
