Emerald Textiles is in the search for an experienced and qualified Chief Engineer for our Orange location
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for overseeing and directing the overall safety and maintenance of the facility and equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises and directs all Shift Engineers, Maintenance Technicians and Housekeeping.
- Confers with management and other department heads to plan and manage preventive maintenance programs.
- Oversees scheduling of inspections and major overhauls in coordination with other operating activities.
- Ensures logs and written records of preventive maintenance programs are properly maintained by staff and all parts replaced are accurately recorded.
- Assigns maintenance responsibility of particular zones to specific engineers and/or technicians and follows up on progress.
- Responsible for controlling time and quality of work of employees with daily work records.
- Oversees inspection of disassembled or malfunctioning machinery to determine cause of trouble and type of repairs required.
- Reviews technical papers, catalogs and other reference materials and confers with equipment suppliers to select and recommend new supplies and maintenance methods to improve plant operations.
- Acts as an advisor in the proper equipment and work-aid selection to accomplish the performance of all tasks within the plant in the most cost-effective manner.
- Inspects and observes progress of work on major overhauls to evaluate efficiency and workmanship.
- Oversees implementation of required safety procedures as they pertain to eqmt and its use.
- Serves as a key member of Safety Committee and supervises day-to-day maintenance practices to ensure OSHA compliance.
- Instructs all mechanics in proper techniques and procedures of maintenance of all types of equipment. Follows up to ensure compliance.
- Responsible for ensuring staff maintains adequate inventories of machine parts and supplies and that staff ensures all parts and supplies are in good operating condition.
- Responsible for air, noise and other miscellaneous pollution abatement and control in accordance with existing industry and OSHA guidelines.
- Assists with research and development projects as assigned.
- Performs other tasks and special duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field or equivalent technical training and/or education
· 10+ years related experience in a similar environment
· Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and guidelines
· 5+ years experience managing engineers, technicians, and other maintenance staff in a similar environment
· Excellent record keeping, attention to detail and communication skills
· Strong written, verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills
· Thorough knowledge of MS Office products
· Ability to work well with superiors, co-workers and subordinates

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Employee frequently works in a commercial laundry facility with a heavy amount of noise and activity. Employee frequently works in an office environment with a moderate amount of noise and activity. The work environment is fast-paced and demanding. Workweeks exceeding 40 hours are required as necessary.
