Position Summary: Substitutes collaborate with other members of the Greentrike Learning Experiences team to deliver exceptional playful educational experiences for children ages newborn to six. This role supports our Preschool Powered by Play and Play to Learn Pierce County programs and summer camps.

Preschool Classroom Facilitation (55%):
- Configure indoor and outdoor spaces to create open-ended learning experiences while maintaining clean and safe environments.
- Promote children’s language and literacy development.
- Support children’s independence, self-help skills, and ability to take physical, social, and emotional risks.
- Implement guidance methods that respect each child’s individuality.
- Routinely restock, reorganize, and sanitize materials ensuring they are accessible and inviting.
- Reorganize and clean classroom after its use.
- Other duties as assigned.
Play to Learn Program Facilitation (45%):
- Review weekly curriculum in preparation for facilitation.
- Set up host location to be an inviting and welcoming space for participants by rearranging furniture as necessary and ensuring cleanliness.
- Facilitate program sessions with co-facilitator in accordance with Greentrike pedagogy.
- Establish rapport with children, caregivers, and program site hosts through cooperative learning.
- Reset host location after each program by cleaning, disinfecting, sorting, organizing, and packing activity materials for their next use as well as rearranging furniture as necessary.
- Continuously monitor program room for health and safety concerns to include trip and slip hazards and children’s biohazard cleanup.
- Routinely restock and reorganize activity materials and tables and sanitize materials ensuring they are accessible and inviting to participants.
- Safely operate vehicle to and from program sites.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum (Required) Qualifications:
- 18 years of age or older.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- College course credits in Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Teaching through the Arts, Child/Family Studies, or General Studies.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
- Reliable means of transportation and ability to be covered by Greentrike insurance.
- Ability to meet requirements for access to Joint Base Lewis-McChord upon job offer.
- Willingness to obtain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification training upon job offer.
- Willingness to complete Bloodborne Pathogen training upon job offer.
- Experience working with children ages birth to six and their caregivers in an educational and/or playful setting.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft 365, Google Suite, and more.
- Knowledge of children’s developmental stages ages 2 – 5.
- Ability to repeatedly push, pull, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to walk around, reach, turn, and perform precision work for 8-hour shift.
- Ability to physically engage in play with children at their level.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Genuine passion for working with children and their caregivers.
- Proven creativity and ability to adapt activities for varying age ranges.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Human Development, Teaching through the Arts, or related field.
- Child Development Associates Credential.
- Bi-lingual Spanish, Korean, or Ukrainian, or other language.
- Experience with emergent curriculum and multi-aged learning environments.
- Experience working with children with special needs.
- Experience being part of and/or working within culturally diverse communities.
- Knowledge of Pierce County community resources for families.

Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour
