Job Summary/Objective:
The Tool Room Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the efficient management and operation of the tool room, which is essential for the smooth functioning of manufacturing processes. Will work in conjunction with purchasing, engineering, production, and various vendors to plan, schedule and expedite the department’s responsibilities. Uses independent judgment and exercises discretion in executing their duties. This position requires a high degree of confidentiality.
Essential Functions:
1. Ensure tools are maintained, repaired, and stored correctly.
2. Develop and implement tool management systems and processes to improve productivity and reduce tool-related downtime.
3. Work closely with production and maintenance departments to ensure the right tools are available and in proper condition for scheduled jobs.
4. Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and other materials.
5. Order and purchase tools when necessary.
6. Supervise, train, and mentor tool room staff.
7. Handle scheduling and performance evaluations.
8. Support machine repair department with machine repair/replacement when necessary
9. Implement continuous improvement initiatives in tool room operations and processes.
10. Maintain accurate records of tools, withdrawals, and returns.
11. Perform regular audits of tools and equipment to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
12. Diagnose tool malfunctions and determine whether to repair or replace items.
13. Liaise with vendors and suppliers for new tool purchases.
14. Provide technical guidance to other departments regarding tool usage and maintenance.
15. Anticipate future needs and technologies to enhance tool room effectiveness.
16. Will maintain the highest standards of excellence for safety, housekeeping, and quality.
17. Will perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/ Education/ Skills:
1. Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree preferred).
2. Must have (5) years of experience in a tool room environment with successful team management.
3. Professional certification in tool management (e.g., Certified Tool and Die Maker) is preferred.
4. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and mechanical systems.
5. Good written and oral communication ability.
