We’re currently in need of an experienced and ambitious maintenance Technician at our Portland, OR location. The Data Center Technician is the first-level data center operations point of contact for customers in need of “remote hands and eyes” assistance. The Data Center Technician will be required to handle multiple duties including installing, configuring, troubleshooting servers, networking devices, and storage systems. Additional responsibilities include cabling, terminating, testing, labeling, and troubleshooting of fiber optic and copper network homeruns and cross-connects. Data Center Technicians are also responsible for asset and capacity management, enterprise system monitoring, fault isolation, and resolution. This position requires rotational on-call availability for normal and emergency situations.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assist customers by responding to smart-hands service ticket requests
- Perform diagnostics/troubleshooting on IT equipment including servers, networking devices, and storage systems
- Support the installation of new equipment “rack and stack”, cabling, and configuration
- Install, dress, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber and copper network interconnections within data center and Meet Me Room (MMR)
- Decommission and remove end of life IT equipment
- Help with cage and cabinet audits and diagrams
- Provide detailed status updates to customer tickets and sales orders
- Maintain/record data center activities, inventory, maintenance tasks, and incidents
- Ensure all systems of the data center environment function optimally and report issues or anomalies
- Ship, receive, log, and distribute packages
- Schedule and oversee vendors
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and data center standards, ensuring a secure and compliant environment
Qualifications:
- Associate degree (AA/AS) or an equivalent combination of education
- 3+ years of experience in Telecommunications or IT related field
- Strong understanding of computer server and networking hardware and components
- Advanced understanding of fiber optic & copper cabling standards, cabling standards, testing equipment & troubleshooting methodologies
- General knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory and data center infrastructure
- Use common power and hand tools and test equipment
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and collaborate with others
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced, mission critical environment
- Effective organizational skills and attention to detail
- Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word,) products to perform daily work requirements
- Can lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs), work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods of time
- Work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Provide rotational on-call support for after-hours issues and emergency situations
