Startech Networks, Inc. (https://startechnetworks.com) is currently seeking an experienced Optical Deployment Engineer with US Work Authorization to work remotely.
Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain Engineering Design Packages for Customer’s Optical Transport Network to include subsea, metro, regional and long-haul DWDM systems.
- Provide technical leadership and collaborate with vendors, manufacturers, and Customer
- personnel during engineering and deployment activities.
- Review acceptance documents provided by vendors and subcontractors deploying equipment on our network.
- Provide technical expertise to network provisioning engineers for troubleshooting out-of-service or faulty circuits or system issues.
- Perform complex network implementations, migrations, and/or decommissioning activities under Customer supervision.
- Provide technical support and oversight of all network test and turn-up activities for assigned deployments.
- Proactively contribute to documentation, automation, and processes as they evolve.
- Work with stakeholders or team members in the field or on site in support of coordination efforts related to the project/services.
- Ensure projects/services are completed on time.
- Utilize Project management tools and dashboards to ensure project statuses, risk, and/or
- blockers are properly updated.
- Communicate with Project Managers and stakeholders as needed to identify and define project requirements, scope, and objectives.
Skills & Qualifications:
Required
- Demonstrated firsthand experience deploying large scale optical DWDM networks.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP protocol, network management protocol, OSPF.
- Experience with optical network design, installation and maintenance for service providers or enterprise networks.
- Knowledge of optical theory, transport technologies and the operation of optical transport
- systems.
- Be able to coordinate multiple aspects of a project in a fast paced and challenging work
- environment and communicate all issues and risk of project to the Project Manager.
- Self-motivated, attentive, and always following through to ensure completion of assigned
- projects.
- Organizational and time management experience.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Knowledge of coding in at least one language (i.e. Python), preferably for network or systems
- automation with knowledge of scripting languages.
- Understanding of Layer 2 concepts (e.g. STP, VLANs etc.), ipv6 and network monitoring.
- Knowledge of Cable Landing Station & Data Center design and operational best practices.
- Experience working in a large cross functional global team environment.
- 1+ years of work experience as a field technician or optical implementation engineer.
- Networking or data center experience with CCNA/JNCIA or equivalent experience.
- Experience writing technical documentation such as job aids or process guides.
