Mission for the Position:
The mission for the SMT Operator is to uphold the highest standards of precision and efficiency in operating surface mount technology machinery, ensuring that every printed circuit board assembled under their watch meets the pinnacle of quality and performance. By mastering the intricacies of the pick and place machines and embracing a meticulous approach to quality control, maintenance, and collaboration, the SMT Operator plays a pivotal role in driving the manufacturing process forward, minimizing waste, and upholding our commitment to delivering superior electronic components to our clients.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
ü Machine Setup and Operation: Set up SMT machines and equipment, including loading feeders with reels of components and adjusting machine settings for new production runs. Operate pick and place machines to place components on PCBs accurately.
ü Quality Assurance: Perform visual inspections of SMT assemblies to ensure components are accurately placed and soldered. Use magnification aids and inspection equipment as necessary to identify and correct defects.
ü Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance on SMT equipment, including cleaning and replacing worn or damaged parts. Troubleshoot and resolve machine malfunctions and production issues promptly to minimize downtime.
ü Programming: Input and adjust machine programs based on PCB design files and production requirements. Modify existing programs to improve efficiency and quality of component placement.
ü Material Handling: Ensure all necessary components are available and organized for upcoming production runs. Handle sensitive electronic components properly to avoid damage.
ü Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production runs, including quantities produced, defects identified, and maintenance performed. Follow and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality standards.
ü Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other team members, including engineers and quality control personnel, to improve production processes and resolve quality issues. Communicate effectively to ensure a smooth production flow.
ü Safety and Cleanliness: Follow all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Keep the SMT area clean and organized to maintain a safe working environment.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
ü High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or training in electronics manufacturing preferred.
ü Previous experience operating SMT machinery, particularly pick and place machines, in an electronic manufacturing environment.
ü Strong attention to detail and ability to work with small, delicate components.
ü Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical or software issues with SMT equipment.
ü Good communication and teamwork skills.
ü Willingness to work in shifts and flexible hours as required by production schedules.
ü Ability to stand for extended periods.
ü Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling small components.
ü Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Measurable Outcomes / Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
ü Achieve production quota and quality targets with minimal machine downtime and material waste.
