DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
- TANF Case Manager: Performs intermediate level case management work, under direct supervision.
- TANF Case Manager Lead: Performs full performance level case management work, under general supervision.
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Provide program eligibility determination and case management to promote economic security to individuals and to strengthen their family life.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

TANF Case Manager:
- Interviews, reviews applications and verifies all information that is required by state and Federal regulations, that can differ with each program.
- Completes re-determination on each case every 3 to 12 months, depending on the program. At this time, all information must be verified and re-reviewed.
- Verifies required information by phone calls to employers through reports from the state and monthly status reports turned in by clients.
- Processes all monthly, weekly, or daily reports that are received from the state.
- Inputs new cases into the state CBMS system and all information changes to current cases, such as new addresses, phone numbers, births of children, loss of family member, age limitations for certain programs and addition of household members.
- Recovers monies paid to clients that were incorrectly issued due to reporting or recording errors.
- Fills out child support paperwork, notarizes and refers to Child Support Enforcement.
- Explains the rules and regulations of all programs in detail to the client.
- Organizes and files cases within the CBMS system.
- Responds immediately to phone calls from clients, providers, and community.
- Assesses TANF participants for aptitudes and abilities for economic security. Reviews assessments for personal goals, educational skills, career skills, family environment, parenting abilities, medical requirements, life skills, domestic violence, substance abuse and other barriers to employment.
- Works with each client in establishing a plan for economic security and monitors the plan monthly. Refers to appropriate agencies for counseling, education, transportation, etc. Assists client with financial needs for transportation, housing, childcare and counseling needs through supportive services.
- Meets with participants on a regular basis to review the Individual Employment Plan for progress towards economic security. Follows state rules on the procedures of demonstrable evidence and sanctions for any lack of the participant’s progress towards economic security without good cause.
- Prepares and mails various forms and letters to clients.
- Attends ongoing trainings and completes home visits as necessary.
