New Destiny’s mission is to end the cycle of domestic violence and homelessness for low-income families and individuals by developing and connecting them to safe, permanent, affordable housing and services. To achieve its mission, New Destiny builds and manages housing with on-site services; offers innovative programs that assist survivors in finding and retaining affordable housing; and works to expand access to permanent housing resources for survivors. New Destiny is the largest provider of supportive housing for domestic violence survivors in New York and is a leading advocate in the effort to obtain the resources needed to end family homelessness in New York City.
New Destiny Housing is seeking an Assistant Director of Housing Access to join the Housing Access team and provide supervision to a team of 7 housing navigators. The qualified candidate will report directly to the Director of Housing Access and will have the responsibilities outlined below.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervision:
- Supervise team of Housing Navigators through regular individual and group supervision meetings
- Provide onboarding and training to Housing Navigators including supporting onboarding of other Housing Access and Stability Services staff
- Ensure staff meet placement targets and manage the process for escalating stalled move-ins with partnering agencies
- Oversee monthly referrals, orientation responsibilities and task completion among Housing Navigators
- Manage Housing Navigators’ caseloads and other responsibilities to mitigate service gaps
- Maintain transparency with program participants and referring agencies through regular updates and communication
- In partnership with the Assistant Director of Housing Stability Services, manage internal referrals to Resource Coordinators to ensure participants access supportive services in a timely manner
- Escalate cases to supervisor, HSS colleagues, and/or FJC partner staff as appropriate
Partnership Management & Capacity Building
- Manage the delivery of training and technical assistance with FJCs and the onsite partner agencies based on advocate and client needs
- Actively network with FJC staff to ensure referring partners are familiar with client eligibility requirements and services available to clients through New Destiny
- Ensure training content and client-facing materials are updated regularly to reflect current information on subsidies, affordable housing, and related topics
- Report monthly progress towards training and technical assistance and ensure adherence to contract goals
Data Management
- Work with supervisor and Data and Evaluation staff to ensure that weekly and monthly reports accurately monitor the progress of individual staff and overall program goals
- Maintain data integrity through regular supervision and quality assurance measures established in coordination with the Data and Evaluation team
- Independently review internal reports to assess program performance and guide supervision with direct reports.
Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in social work, human services or a related field
- Requires 5 years of experience working in the fields of domestic violence, housing, economic empowerment or related field including solid related experience with domestic violence and/or housing insecurity will be considered equally to professional experience
- Familiarity professional proficiency in one of the ten designated citywide languages (strong preference)
- Must have at least one year (1) of supervisory experience working with a similar client population
- Have excellent organizational skills and close attention to detail
- Strong oral and written communication skills, responsible, flexible, a self-starter, diplomacy, and able to work independently
- Have experience in interacting with people from diverse backgrounds
- Be familiar with local and federal housing subsidies (CityFHEPS, FHEPS, Section 8, etc.) and Housing First Rapid-Rehousing approaches
- Experience and ability to demonstrate using data to inform program decisions, supervision, and identifying trends
- Must be comfortable traveling within NYC as needed to provide support to participants and program activities
Compensation/Benefits
Starting salary is in the range is $75K - $80K. This is a hybrid role allowing for 2 WFH days per week. This is a full-time position with a benefits package including medical, dental, vision, short disability, PTO paid holidays and 401(k). EOE
