St. Augustin Parish in Des Moines, Iowa is seeking a Maintenance Technician to assist in the maintenance of the physical plant needs of multiple parish buildings and property. The Maintenance Technician will ensure the cleanliness of parish facilities as well as assist in troubleshooting HVAC, plumbing, and electrical issues. This position holds the primary responsibility for interior and exterior upkeep of the church, parish hall, business office and surrounding grounds. The ideal candidate will have documented education and/or skills in one or more of the following: HVAC, plumbing (boiler systems), electrical and construction techniques. Experience juggling multiple projects and meeting project deadlines is a plus. Minimum requirements include a high school diploma and demonstrated experience working with utilities and mechanical systems, able to lift up to 50lbs., possess a valid Iowa driver’s license and be able to provide own transportation. This is a full-time position with hours Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm and offering a competitive compensation that includes a full suite of benefits and a starting wage between $21.00 to $23.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
· Ensure the church, hall, chapel, business office and rectory are maintained in a clean and orderly manner, interacting with contracted cleaning services and augmenting these services by wiping tables, vacuuming floors, dusting and wet/dry mopping on an “as-needed” basis.
· Perform minor fixes to such items as electrical outlets and lighting, making door and wall repairs, patching and painting, etc.
· Manage woodworking projects that may include basic construction and refinishing techniques.
· Provide minor maintenance of heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical systems.
· Regularly check control panels and electrical wiring to identify issues.
· Installation of appliances and capital equipment.
· Interact with contractors to manage the upkeep of grounds (hedge trimming, weed/feed, lawn/sprinkler system maintenance, raking, collecting trash etc.)
· Regularly inspect utilities such as restrooms, light fixtures, and boiler to ensure adequate and functional supplies and chemicals.
· Handle event set-up for activities in the parish hall, church, and parking lot.
· Work with Facility Manager to inspect and troubleshoot equipment and systems issues (e.g. ventilation).
· Work with Facility Manager to check functionality of safety systems (e.g. fire detectors and alarm).
· Act as “point of contact” with professional contractors or vendors when on-site.
· Maintain facility records and receipts as required and manage supply inventory.
· Support Facilities Manager as back-up to maintenance and other school needs.
· Attend one “all-staff” meeting per month and occasionally an evening Buildings & Grounds/Safety meeting.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
· Ability to diagnose issues and suggest cost efficient solutions.
· Demonstrate good communication and solid interpersonal skills.
· Maintain a valid driver’s license and provide own transportation for job-related responsibilities.
· Availability for on-call needs with occasional night and weekend hours.
· Job requires coordination, dexterity, and comfortability working at height (on ladders, powerlifts, etc.).
