Why Tutor Corps?
Research shows one of the most effective strategies for accelerating academic progress is through targeted, high-dosage tutoring. The CPS Tutor Corps will train hundreds of Chicagoans to serve as literacy tutors in grades 1-6 and math tutors in grades 6-9 at schools on the South and West Sides of Chicago. We need you to join us in this effort to accelerate CPS students’ learning. Come serve in the Tutor Corps and help lift up Chicago’s next generation!
Job Description
Position start date August 19, 2024- June 2025
Tutors will provide targeted instruction in either Math or ELA based on best practice strategies and curriculum. They must work collaboratively with teachers to understand student needs and establish positive learning environments for all students. They will also have to keep and track data records that measure students’ progress. All candidates need to be computer literate. Reading and math tutors need to pass a basic technology assessment. Math tutors must pass a brief math assessment.
Requirements
Applicants should have their high school degree or equivalent. For those Corps tutoring in math, there will be a diagnostic math assessment you are required to complete. On and off-site training will be provided.
We will prioritize those with experience but we are eager to train any applicants who are highly motivated and committed.
Pay and Benefits
Part time/no Benefits
Pay will be from$20-$22 hourly
We will prioritize Tutor Corps applicants who can work 20-30 hours. We will also prioritize candidates who can commit to tutoring for the full academic school year.
