The checker is the most critical job in the store. The person is the final contact that the store has with the customer. This is the last impression that we have to tell our customers that we appreciate their business and encourage them to return to shop again. What the checker does and how well he or she does their job determines, to a very large extent, whether the customer will come back.
We need to treat each individual like a guest in our home - with courtesy, friendliness, and the respect that they deserve. • Be knowledgeable in and able to recognize or differentiate between all of the various types of produce merchandise including differences between varieties of similar classes of produce (ie., apples and lettuces) and departmental product differences (ie., Service Deli vs. Deli Dairy an Grocery vs. International Grocery); • Assist courtesy clerks in bagging merchandise according to company policy; • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt courteous assistance; • Comply with all safety policies and procedures; • Handle damaged or spoiled products and “go-backs”.
- Perform other duties and assignments as directed. • Memorize produce item codes for faster service.
