Join Civic Works’ Solar Panel Installer Training Program!
Solar energy installation is an industry primed for expansion and job creation. As a Solar Installation participant, you will learn how to construct rooftop and ground mounted solar systems.
Your paid training starts with 8 weeks of classes at Civic Works in East Baltimore, Monday through Friday, 8am to 3pm. These training classes will include:
- Personal and professional development courses
- Construction certifications, including OSHA 30
- Hands-on training in the fundamentals of solar panel installation
After completing the initial training at Civic Works, you’ll complete 4 weeks of paid on-the-job training with one of our solar employer partner companies in Baltimore City or Baltimore County. During this period, you’ll work full-time with professional crews on their actual worksites, with the possibility of overtime.
To ensure that you can fully focus on training, Civic Works will provide you with all of the following during training:
- A stipend of $200 per week
- Free lunches and snacks
- Transportation
- Case management services
- Construction tools and safety equipment to take with you for your next job
What to Expect from the Application and Interview Process
To be accepted into the training program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Complete an online application
- Be comfortable climbing ladders and working on roofs at various heights
- Pass a drug screening (urinalysis detects THC and other substances)
- Be a Maryland resident
- Be 18 years or older
- A Driver's License (Not Expired) + an insured and reliable vehicle
Note: trainees do not need to have a high school diploma or a GED to enroll in the training program. Women and persons who have been impacted by the justice system are strongly encouraged to apply.
How to Apply
- Step 1 - Click “Apply Below” and complete the application. You’ll then automatically be redirected to Calendly to schedule your In-Person Skills Test appointment.
- Step 2 -Schedule your in-person Pre-Screening Appointment with Calendly
- Step 3 - Attend your in-person Pre-Screening Appointment, which includes a hands-on skills assessment, a drug screen, and an intake interview. You must be able to complete all 3 steps (skills assessment, drug screen, and interview) in one day. If you cannot complete all steps in one day, you will have to repeat the process.
Once you complete your in-person Pre-Screening Appointment you’ll be guided by Civic Works staff through the rest of our interview and screening process. Drug Screening and Intake interviews will be completed after the Skills Test at our office.
Note: Graduation and employment assistance are based on successfully meeting all program requirements, including but not limited to, demonstration of relevant construction skills, passing course exams, punctuality, attendance, and adherence to program policies.
