Position: Putaway Lead
FSLA Status: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Pay Rate: $21.50/hr
Scope of the Role
The Putaway Lead is responsible for maintaining the distribution center’s overall product storage process including but not limited to taking products off the receiving shipment and putting them into the most appropriate location, reducing risk of misplaced or lost product. This position is critical to ensure warehouse operations efficiency including initial placement of goods has a direct impact on all subsequent warehouse processes, ensuring items are stored in an optimal location to reduce risk to the security and integrity of the goods and/or safety of the employees.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
- Ensure product is stored quickly, efficiently, and accurately at all times.
- Secure product and safety of employees is ensured.
- Ensure distribution center space utilization is maximized.
- Collect product data and input in WMS to ensure all product is being collected accurately and efficiently to reduce errors and reduce overhead.
- Monitor storage capacity and space availability using WMS.
- Actively monitor order volume and frequency on an ongoing basis and adapt as major shifts occur.
- Actively use direct putaway strategy to move product from receiving area to final location to avoid staging phase and reduce handling and space requirements in the distribution center.
- Maintain distribution center’s overall cleanliness and organization, avoid clutter to ensure safety hazards are in place and reduce risk of compromising integrity of product and avoid employee incidents.
- Conduct 10 % audit for Putaway Operators on goods stored, verify location, count, centering of goods and wrapping.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Required Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Must have 1-3 years of recent experience in a similar role within the manufacturing, production, or distribution environments.
- Excellent attendance required; must be able to work on a regular and predictable basis or as schedule due to changes in the business needs and/or during peak season.
- Able to sufficiently read and comprehend freight instructions.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to walk or stand for long periods of time and walk the distribution center and surrounding areas as needed.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment with variable noise levels, lighting conditions and temperature variation.
