JOB SUMMARY:
Monday-Friday 11am-7:30pm
Molecular Laboratory Technicians require expanded knowledge and understanding of laboratory techniques and the ability to perform technical tasks, as assigned, based on specific department needs.
Good reading, writing, and math abilities are required. Must be able to demonstrate good problem-solving skills, highly developed interpersonal skills, and a high level of self-motivation.
Employees are responsible for following all Company policies and procedures. These policies and procedures will include adherence to regulatory standards such as CAP, CLIA and OSHA, including safety standards in performing all aspects of the functions below.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
All Lab Technician positions:

Have an advanced understanding of laboratory techniques with an emphasis on department specific techniques.
- Possess high-level oral and written communication and problem-solving skills to communicate effectively with co-workers, managers, clients, and pathologists.
- Must be able to multi-task, accurately, and with a focus on quality.

Must be proficient in basic computer skills.

Must be able to work with minimal supervision; ability to self-direct.
- Operate department specific equipment, to include daily and routine maintenance
- Perform daily and routine department specific QC documentation

Prepare laboratory reagents and solutions; follow appropriate disposal protocols

Successful participation in proficiency testing, if applicable
- Maintain department specific competency
- Assist in ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements
- Troubleshoot relevant equipment and technical matters
- Assist in other duties and projects as assigned by department manager
DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC
Molecular Tech-FISH

Perform technical aspects of Molecular procedures accurately and efficiently as assigned.

Process and prepare patient samples according to SOPs for FISH testing.
- Responsible for monitoring inventory and ordering supplies

Work closely with additional Molecular Laboratory Assistants, Molecular Technologists, Molecular Manager, and Pathologists
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT:
-
In exercising these functions the employee must be able to exert up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force routinely to move objects.

Employee may be exposed to blood products, knife cuts, hazardous waste and chemical fumes, so appropriate precautionary measures must be followed at all times. Certain situations require eye protection, a mask, lab coat and or gloves. Hazardous Waste training required.

Must be able to perform repetitive motion.
- Must be able to pass color-vision test as work requires color distinction.

Must be able to work in fume hood.
- Some molecular testing requires darkroom work.

Typical lab equipment including, but not limited to, pipets, centrifuges, microscopes.

- Fluorescent microscopes

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent
One year of relevant laboratory experience
Level I: less than 3 years of relevant work experience
II: 3-7 years of relevant work experience
III: 8+ years of relevant work experience
(All experience to be determined at the discretion of the Department Manager)
