The PLC Controls Tech - Sr. Maintenance Technician has critical areas of responsibility Installs, maintains and repairs machinery, equipment, building and electric systems, following specifications, manuals, schematic drawings and established procedures, using hand tools, and other necessary equipment. A successful candidate will be a self-starter, committed to safety for self and the team, hungry to learn and make improvement, a high standard for quality and process compliance, and a team player.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot PLC and controllers.
- Troubleshoot AC and DC drives and servos.
- Troubleshoot issues with relay, cabinet, sensor, switches, etc.
- Troubleshoot motor controls, drives, and motors.
- Repairs equipment as problems are identified by management and operators, some which are urgent.
- Work seamlessly and collaboratively with maintenance department and operations team members.
- Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunction and determine need for repair or adjustment.
- Dismantles machine or equipment when necessary using hand tools or power tools to examine parts for defect or to remove the defective part.
- Replaces defective parts with a new part or repairs or reproduces from various kinds of metal, using necessary tools.
- Removes and assembles motors, bearings, shafts, gears, pumps, and coolant system parts.
- Maintains all machines and equipment following the preventative maintenance schedule.
- Cleans, maintains and lubricates machines and equipment.
- Repairs and maintains the buildings.
- Maintains an orderly storage and work area.
- Must be flexible to work weekends and extended hours as needed.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Required
- Technical school degree or certified training.
- Minimum 3-5 years PLC experience in a CNC manufacturing environment or as a technician for a controls system company.
- 1 year manufacturing experience in tight tolerance production.
- Facility maintenance experience required.
- Support equipment experience for overhead cranes and material handling equipment is required.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and electrical drawings.
- Strong math skills demonstrated through assessment during hiring process.
- Must be able to read indicators and use tools.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5-7 years PLC experience in a CNC manufacturing environment or as a technician for a controls system company, preferred.
- 5 axis and/or 3 axis and surface grinding experience preferred.
- 5S standards experience preferred.
- Prior experience working in aerospace manufacturing industry.
Physical Demands
Talking, hearing and using hands to operate machining equipment. Ability to load parts into a machine at or above waist height. Must be able to lift at least 50lbs frequently and on occasion more than 50lbs. Ability to use a computer is preferred. Must be able to work on your feet in a manufacturing environment. Physical ability to do work requiring frequent lifting, twisting, standing, stooping and bending. Physical ability to climb steps and maneuver in tight spaces and at awkward angles.
Working Environment
Usual manufacturing environment with temperature fluctuations, noise from and interactions with equipment, and safety standards of PPE and practices required.
