Job Requisition: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii
Degree/Education:
- Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS/BCLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) training program.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)/Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
- Intermediate Fetal Monitoring.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
Experience:
- At least one (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years in a Labor and Delivery department.
Requirements:
- Successful completion of an L&D competency assessment consisting of hands-on scenarios following standardized scripts.
- Completion of a unit-specific competency-based orientation and assessment.
- Provide specialized obstetric care to normal/high-risk obstetric patients.
- Advanced knowledge of antepartum, labor, delivery, obstetric perioperative, postpartum, triage, and neonatal care.
- Thorough knowledge of all medications and anesthetic agents used in obstetric care.
- Ability to administer and titrate a variety of intravenous medications requiring constant monitoring.
- Apply knowledge of maternal and fetal pathophysiology to identify potential complications and develop strategies for prevention or intervention.
- Evidence of continuing nursing education relevant to the specialty.
- Professional knowledge in nursing concepts, principles, and standards of practice.
- Proficiency in utilizing nursing care plans and assessment tools.
- Skilled in operation of specialized medical equipment, including fetal monitoring devices, intravenous pumps, and vital signs monitors.
- Ability to assist with complex procedures such as internal monitor insertion and induction of general anesthesia.
- Knowledge of health care management principles and techniques.
- Proficient in counseling, evaluation, and patient education.
- Effective communication skills with healthcare providers, patients, and community agency staff.
- Ability to maintain alertness and react promptly to emergencies such as instability of the mother and fetus.
- Competency in sterile and aseptic techniques.
- Understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan.
Core Duties:
- Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
- Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice.
- Perform physical exams, health histories, and health promotion activities.
- Administer medications, wound care, and other personalized interventions.
- Recognize and react to adverse signs and symptoms.
- Conduct nursing triage within the ambulatory care setting.
- Instruct patients and families on self-care during pregnancy.
- De-escalate potentially disruptive situations.
- Respond effectively to emergencies, including resuscitation efforts.
- Assess patients' conditions, plan care, and document patient responses.
- Transcribe physician orders and communicate pertinent patient data.
- Interpret cardiac rhythms, lab values, and diagnostic tests.
- Participate in daily safety reports.
