Entry level electrical engineer who, under the guidance of the Engineering Manager / Director of Engineering, performs electrical engineering and controls work required to concept, design, estimate, final engineer, purchase, install, project manage, program and turnover conveyor handling, picking and storage solutions. This individual reviews findings and recommendations with the Engineering Manager / Director of Engineering in areas of unusual or difficult problems. The individual also receives supervision on routine or moderately difficult aspects of assignments.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES[1]

With minimal guidance from the Engineering Manager / Director of Engineering, the individual is responsible for applying, designing, estimating, programming, implementing and debugging of controls systems for case and unit load conveyors, as well as automated picking and storage systems. The individual is also responsible for complete electrical project management, including oversight of the electrical installation, system start-up and turnover by execution of the following:
- Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates the detailed activities of the assigned engineering work; after analyzing the system specifications and gaining a complete understanding of the project requirements in the areas of electrical equipment and controls application and design.
- Correctly applies/selects controls equipment and selects suppliers to successfully fulfill all project or assignment requirements.
- Generates, develops and distributes necessary bills of materials, scopes of work and requests for proposal for all electrical vendors and subcontractors; evaluates pricing and proposals, makes recommendations for vendor selection.
- Coordinates and/or prepares the technical content, electrical equipment lists, electrical installation specifications, electrical installation schedule, basis of quote, and overall electrical pricing for proposals.
- Generates and develops preliminary description of operation for proposals with Project Manager.
- Responsible for concepting, controls application and design, written communications, total system electrical pricing and project “estimates to complete”.
- Maintains up-to-date and complete project files.
- Prepares all necessary power calculations, circuit sizing and facility power requirements.
- Prepares all necessary final engineered, approval, installation, as-built and as-wired drawings on AutoCAD to include panel layout design, electrical controls site plan layouts, wiring schematics, power drawings, etc.
- Coordinates and/or prepares the release of purchase orders for all electrical deliverables to include panels, panel components, electrical field devices with required mounting components and/or bracketry, electrical installation (and materials for such), etc.
- Administers all subcontractor agreements for subcontracted labor requirements.
- Generates and develops approval and final sequence of operation.
- Coordinates, oversees and/or completes all necessary PLC, PC, HMI, MMI programming to meet project requirements.
- Responsible for appropriate application, design and implementation of all bar code scanning applications to include interface requirements with customer network, WMS and/or WCS systems as appropriate.
- Coordinates, oversees and/or completes final electrical system documentation requirements to include as-built and as-wired drawings, program documentation, spare parts lists and operations/maintenance manuals for system projects.
- Provides onsite internal start-up, testing and debug support as required to ensure a smooth customer start-up.
- Provides onsite standby support during customer go-live production start-up to assure total customer satisfaction.
- Conducts onsite training of customer personnel with regard to proper system operation, start-up and shut-down procedures, emergency stop procedures, HMI interface use, general maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.
- Remains current on all aspects of material handling and controls technology to keep our Company positioned as a leader in the material handling industry.
- Evaluates and prepares recommendations for ways to reduce costs in the areas of engineering, equipment selection, controls design and installation.
- Assists in the training of Systems Engineers and Electrical Engineers in the areas of Company and departmental procedures, drawing standards, and routine or advanced engineering applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years of controls design experience, including concepting, design, estimating, installation, programming and debug of complex solutions for material handling, picking and storage systems.
- Experience/knowledge of controls application and design for case and pallet conveyor applications.
- Panel design knowledge/experience.
- Allen Bradley PLC programming experience.
- HMI design and programming experience (RSView, Wonderware, PanelView, etc.)
- Experience using AutoCAD software.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office products and the internet.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Project software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with and working knowledge of QC Software Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) or similar
- Familiarity with Rockwell (Allen Bradley) suite of products.
- Familiarity with Wonderware HMI development software.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience supervising and/or managing other engineers and electrical installation subcontractors.
