Becton Healthcare Resources, a Healthcare Management Company, is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Records Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong medical records management and terminology background.
The Medical Records Specialist is responsible for overseeing the organization and maintenance of medical records within our outpatient mental health practice. This person leads the medical records process with lockstep collaboration and coordination with the organization's Risk Management and Quality Assurance Departments.
Duties:
- Oversee the organization's maintenance of medical records in compliance with regulatory standards
- Manage requests for medical records from patients, healthcare providers, insurance companies, and other authorized parties, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
- Manages Medical Records Storage
- Develop, implement, and update record-keeping policies and procedures in accordance with the State and organization’s payor sources and malpractice carrier requirements
- Ensure confidentiality and security of all patient information
Coordinate with healthcare providers to retrieve and update patient records as needed
- Manage electronic health record systems efficiently
- Conduct regular risk access audits of medical records to access levels and regulatory compliance
- Train staff on proper record-access, in compliance with HIPAA, Privacy, and approved clinic practices
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven experience in medical records management
- Familiarity with medical terminology and coding systems
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Proficiency in electronic health record systems
- Solid knowledge of HIPAA regulations and compliance requirements
