About Cradle to Career: Cradle to Career is a parent advocacy organization and a community connector, which primarily operates through United Way Santa Cruz County in collaboration with local school districts, Santa Cruz Community Health, and others. Our collective brings together valuable community partners and connects them to local youth and parents, to hear directly about how to support the hopes, dreams, and concerns of local families. Our mission is to work collectively to empower families, deliver resources, and advocate for equitable and inclusive support systems to eliminate disparities and ensure all Santa Cruz County children thrive in their education, health, and character.
Position Summary: Cradle to Career is seeking a dynamic, bilingual Community Organizer to activate and deepen family engagement, leadership development, and advocacy, facilitate collaboration with community partners, and co-create and deliver community-driven solutions to support C2C’s goals of good health, education, character-building and community strength.
Responsibilities include:
Outreach & Engagement:
- Conduct direct outreach (via in-person, phone, text, email) to youth, parents, and caregivers and activate them to participate in various C2C activities and leadership roles, as well as other school and community decision-making spaces
- Partner with school district personnel to engage with families and refer parents to school and community resources and support services
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between school district personnel, the Cradle to Career Parent Leadership Committee, and community agencies
- Participate in various school meetings (e.g. ELAC, Home & School Club) and other community meetings and events
- Develop trusting relationships with youth and parent leaders and key community constituencies
Leadership Development:
- Strengthen and support the C2C Parent Leadership Committee and Steering Committee to co-create opportunities for families to make their voices heard
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between parents and community groups
- Support parent leaders in analyzing problems, designing solutions, and implementing effective strategies for change
- Develop meeting agendas, facilitate or co-facilitate meetings, draft meeting notes, delegate tasks, and outreach to other parents and support parent leaders to do the same
- Assist in the formulation of C2C goals and plans utilizing the participation of youth, parents, community members, and school personnel
- Recruit, train, and supervise interns and volunteers;
Administration
- Coordinate logistics for workshops, events, advocacy, and other community activities
- Create spreadsheets, and documents as needed to track workflows and ensure follow-through by team members
- Maintain detailed records, including attendance, meeting notes, and database management; create data displays, prepare reports, conduct parent surveys
- Arrange incentives, interpretation, childcare, schedule meetings and events
- Assist with interpretation and translation
- Develop bilingual flyers, reports, slide decks, forms, letters
- Assist with photography, social media, and special communications projects
- Support the writing of reports and present them as necessary to the C2C Steering Committee, staff, funders, and public
- Participate in special projects as assigned, assuming responsibility for the end product
- Consistently respond to emails, texts, and calls in a professional and timely manner
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bilingual/bi-literate in both English and Spanish
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and racial equity
- Demonstrated leadership skills with strength-based, creative problem-solving capacities and the ability to motivate and engage others
- Brings ambition and a growth mindset, with a desire to cultivate leadership skills in oneself and others
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral and written) and ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and self-direct, working effectively with little direct supervision
- Strong administrative, organizational, and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and manage projects effectively in a team environment, and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment with established guidelines, policies, and procedures
- Strong computer skills (including all Google Workspace apps and Canva) and desire to learn new applications and technology skills

Other Requirements:
- Ability to travel independently within Santa Cruz County
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Available to work before and after office hours on occasion for meetings or to meet deadlines as needed

Experience, Education & Training:
- Experience with community organizing, facilitation, adult education, advocacy, immigrant rights, public health, social work, and/or a related field
- College degree in Education, Sociology, Psychology, Community Studies, Communications, or related fields and 1+ years relevant work experience - OR -
- 4+ years of relevant work experience, education, and training that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed previously
Terms of Employment:
- Employer of record: United Way Santa Cruz County (C2C’s fiscal sponsor)
- Salary commensurate with experience: $60,782 - $72,577 annually
- Desired Start Date: Flexible start date (July 29, 2024)
- Schedule: Year-round grant-funded position, 40 hours per week, variable schedule primarily Monday-Friday 8 am - 5 pm with some evening and weekend responsibilities, and family-friendly accommodations upon request
- Work Location: This position will primarily be performed at a local elementary school in Santa Cruz County (exact location TBD), with workspace available at United Way Santa Cruz County, and remote work options when appropriate
- Vacation Leave: Following the first full month of employment, full-time employees will accrue 10 paid vacation days during the first year of employment (15 days in 2nd-4th years, 20 days in 5th year, and thereafter). C2C Community Organizers are generally expected to utilize vacation leave during school breaks.
- Sick Leave: Following the first full month of employment, full-time employees will accrue 8 hours of paid sick leave per month
- Paid Holidays: MLK Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, workdays excluding weekends on and between Dec 24 - Jan 1
