Jacob & Hefner Associates, Inc. is a civil engineering, land surveying, and environmental services firm with offices in Illinois, California, Georgia, Texas, and Washington.
We are seeking an experienced project manager and environmental engineer to further grow our environmental services division in our Downers Grove (suburban Chicago), Illinois office. As an experienced environmental engineer, you will be involved with contaminated site assessment and remediation, in situ and ex situ remediation system design and operation, vapor inhalation assessment and mitigation design, groundwater management, PFAS-related site assessment and remediation, and Brownfield remediation and redevelopment, while continuing to develop business skills needed for a successful consulting career. Additionally, you will be expected to lead business and client development opportunities, take on project management responsibilities, and support staff management and mentoring tasks.
Candidate Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to be flexible in relation to time management and must be detail oriented. Key candidate qualifications for the experienced environmental engineer position include:
- BS degree in environmental engineering, civil or chemical engineering. (required)
- Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
- Over 7 years of work experience. (required)
- Licensed professional engineer certification (P.E.). (required)
- Project experience involving environmental remediation system design, including in situ remediation (i.e., ISCO, SVE, thermal, ISS) and excavation/disposal, remediation system installation, operation and maintenance, and system optimization. (required)
- Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (required)
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (required), AutoCAD, fate and transport modeling, and GIS. (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. (required)
Job Responsibilities:
Some of the key responsibilities for the experienced environmental engineer position include:
- Designing, managing, and drawing conclusions from remedial investigation projects involving contaminated media (soil, groundwater, surface water, soil gas, and indoor air); projects will include both traditional field and sampling techniques and high-resolution characterization techniques.
- Developing feasibility studies, remedial alternative evaluations, remediation cost estimates, and remedial action plans for soil, vapor, and groundwater remediation projects.
- Designing and overseeing the implementation of projects using in-situ and ex-situ remedial technologies.
- Managing remediation system operation and maintenance services, as necessary.
- Developing monitoring plans, performance criteria, and optimization options for remedial approaches.
- Managing tasks or projects, including tracking project budgets, tracking project schedules, etc.
- Leading in the development of proposals and other business development activities, including attendance at local networking events and national industry-related conferences.
- Fieldwork – Up to 15%
- Overnight Travel – Up to 25%

Pay: $90,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
