RESPONSIBILITIES
- In conjunction with the Laboratory Director (s) and Chair of Pathology Directs plans, organizes and evaluates the anatomic and clinical pathology laboratory sections.
- Provides leadership to laboratory staff including development of performance improvement plans and career ladders to meet department objectives.
- Establishes and maintains positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees. Interacts professionally, courteously, and appropriately with patients, visitors and employees. Behaves in a manner consistent with maintaining and furthering a positive public perception.
- In conjunction with the laboratory owner, laboratory director and dept chair maintains and institutes a Quality Management System (QMS) that continuously assesses and improves the quality of laboratory services and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Oversees the monitoring and documenting of quality assurance and quality improvement activities, including assisting supervisor staff in the development of quality monitors and ensuring implementation; monitors said for deviation and plans of correction.
- Ensures laboratories compliance with regulatory standards including self-inspections and audits as well as inspection readiness.
- Assists laboratory staff in managing assigned tasks to meet department quality and service requirements in conjunction with meeting regulatory requirements.
- Monitors work in the laboratory to ensure that analytically and clinically valid data are generated.
- Ensure that sufficient and qualified personnel are employed.
- Ensures supervisors have sufficient time to perform their supervisory functions.
- Performs competency assessment of direct reports and ensures all required competency assessments are performed by qualified individuals.
- Participates in and helps to manage all laboratory inspections.
- Ensures that all required proficiency testing is ordered and performed per regulatory requirements.
- Assists supervisors and leads in managing laboratory staff including performance of job duties, tardiness and productivity monitoring.
- Assists supervisors and laboratory staff in ordering and managing inventory
- Assists supervisors and laboratory staff with validation planning, development and implementation as necessary.
- Monitors age and functionality of laboratory equipment and well as determines appropriate equipment coverage for volume and service requirements.
- In conjunction with hospital leadership, laboratory director(s) and department chair meets with vendors and develops strategic organizational planning to meet patient needs, quality levels, service requirements and financial goals for the organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Department Chair as necessary.
Qualifications:
Related education, training, experience required:
- Well-developed communication and prioritizing skills;
- Computer proficiency with emphasis on basic word processing and spreadsheet applications in a Windows environment;
- Ability to process assigned duties in an efficient and organized manner and meet expectations of the practice;
- Close attention to detail;
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to identify, research, and resolve problems and discrepancies;
- Ability to work extra hours and put forth extra effort when needed;

- Significant experience managing and developing Lab/Histology programs;
- Significant knowledge of billing and documentation standards;
- Knowledge of regulatory agencies and requirements.
