Job Summary:
RNs are contracted as independent contractors. The RN Infusion Specialist communicates and collaborates closely with pharmacists, physicians, and other members of the health care team to provide consistent quality care for patients with Infusion Therapy needs. Working with a high degree of autonomy, the RN accepts responsibility and accountability for assigned patients as a Case Manager to plan, implement, and evaluate the care for adolescent and adult clients. The RN works within the framework of the State Nurse Practice Act(s), follows all Finic Health policies and procedures, and participates in Finic Health Quality Assessment/ Improvement activities. RN complies with nursing standards while performing job duties and responsibilities, and will demonstrate competence in these key job areas through the ability to perform functions, including, but not limited to, the listed duties and responsibilities.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Registered nurse with current state license in good standing
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Credentials in specialty area, i.e., phlebotomy, IV, ET.
- Two (2) years experience in acute care nursing with venipuncture and infusion therapy administration skills (at least one (1) year was within the last 2 calendar years)
- Experience in Critical Care and/or ambulatory care setting highly desirable
- One-on-One patient care experience in a home care setting desirable
- CPR certified currently
- Current health certificate/physical examination and TB testing.
- Valid state driver’s license and reliable automobile.
- Proof of current automobile insurance.
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Successfully clear Criminal Background Check
- Nursing Liability Insurance
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
DIRECT PATIENT CARE – The RN will provide the patient with care that is planned, continuously evaluated, and revised as needed. The patient’s status will be documented within the initial assessment and reassessment guidelines, and reflect patient care needs, interventions to meet the patient’s needs, nursing care provided, the patient’s response to, and the outcome of the care provided.
- Provides direct care for patients in the Infusion Clinic and/or patient’s home based upon Plan of Care.
- Uses knowledge and understanding of infusion and IVIG therapy.
- Exercises clinical competence in nursing skills and follows procedures based on Full Circle Care policies and procedures.
- Administers infusion products as ordered.
- Demonstrates competence in ordered treatments including, but not limited to, vital signs, assessments, venipuncture, accessing and care of central lines, IVIG therapy, and other intravenous therapy.
- Demonstrates competence in patient and family education on common topics, including, but not limited to, disease process, IVIG therapy, expected outcomes.
- Initiates anaphylaxis/emergency procedures as necessary.
NURSING PROCESS – The RN will assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients and be accountable for an assessment of the patient’s basic human needs, enabling healthcare team to make appropriate decisions to develop, implement and evaluate a plan for care.
- Reviews and completes patient history, nursing assessment and evaluation on all patients per policy.
- Demonstrates competent utilization of interview, examination and observation techniques with patients and significant others.
- Prepares and implements a plan for care for infusion therapy patients using established policies and procedures in collaboration with the physician, the patient and significant others.
- Keeps a patient plan for care updated to reflect changes in conditions and response to therapies or education.
- Implements and evaluates plans for care reflecting appropriate nursing and medical diagnoses, goal development, outcome criteria and target dates.
- Assumes patient advocate role, protecting all patient rights.
- Provides continuity of care for patient as plan of care may involve multiple disciplines.
- Utilizes available resources effectively by appropriate consultations and collaboration to maximize effectiveness of care.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – The RN will be professional and competent as a care provider and as a collaborator with other professionals.

- Attends all mandatory education programs and some additional continuing professional education functions to enhance skills and judgment.
- Communicates to Chief nursing officer and Director of nursing areas of education or procedural deficiency.
- Reviews current literature, sharing ideas for care of patients and revision of policies and procedures.
- Consistently initiates and actively participates in implementing change to improve work environment, work processes or patient care.
GENERAL WORK PRACTICE/COMMUNICATIONS – The RN will demonstrate awareness of his/her responsibilities as a professional nurse through accurate, clear, concise and timely written and oral communications.
- Documents accurately and promptly patient assessments, care and response to treatment and education on approved forms.
- Documents accurately reflect changes in patient status and appropriate actions.
- Documents clearly and legibly using only approved abbreviations.
- Actively keeps patient informed of anticipated responses to treatment.
- Facilitates discussion between patient and physician.
- Seeks financial counseling regarding reimbursement or other medical financial concerns of patient or significant other, and responds accurately and timely.
- Ensures all necessary informed consents are signed prior to providing non-emergency care.
- Follows the seven (7) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
- Complies with ethical conduct and professional Standards of Nursing Practice
HEALTH AND SAFETY – The RN will organize and prioritize work to provide patient care in a safe environment.
- Adheres to guidelines or standards of practice (i.e., ANA, CA Nursing Practice Act, Infusion Nurse Society), and all current Mobile Medical LA policies and procedures.
- Safety precautions are implemented as needed by professional judgment, policies and procedures, and National Patient Safety Goals.
- Demonstrates consistent use of OSHA guidelines and Universal Precautions.
- Communicable diseases are reported per policy.
- Utilizes proper body mechanics.
- Utilizes safe procedures in infection control, exposure control, equipment, supplies, facility, emergency, safety, fire and disaster plans.
