Construction Project Engineer (PE) needed to support the operations of a multi-state painting contractor. This position is based at the corporate office in Kent, Washington. The PE will serve as an extension of the Project Manager (PM) to optimize daily operations, ensure contractual obligations are met, and identify changes to the scope of work.
Long Painting Company (LPC) conducts some of the most complex new construction and maintenance coating projects in the Northwest. Typical commercial work can encompass office towers, tenant improvements, retail stores and restaurants, hotels, parking garages, medical centers, and more. Typical industrial work can encompass shipyards, bridges, tank farms, factory maintenance painting, dams, and various types of infrastructure.
You will be responsible for:
Jobsite Project Management:
- Overseeing daily administrative documentation
- Keeping an accurate record of all project documentation
- Monitoring quality control documentation, as well as regular quality control checks on jobsites
- Track, price, and integrate construction change directives into the schedule, forwarding appropriate Requests for Information (RFIs) for clarification
- Identifying changes to the contract scope, performing field estimates as needed to capture opportunity and impact costs
- Recording and tracking all extra work performed on jobsites, including labor, materials, and equipment used for time and material (T&M) tickets
- Assisting the Project Manager with change orders and monthly billings
- Documenting and coordinating the start and completion of punch list work
- Handling purchases of coating materials, sundry supplies, and specialty equipment with both vendors and the company’s Service Center
- Tracking materials and equipment
Communications:
- Attending and documenting site meetings with the customer and/or other project representatives, then sending that information to the LPC Project Team
- Regularly preparing descriptions and timelines of the project
- Notifying and coordinating with the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Director immediately following any jobsite injuries, incidents, or near-misses
- Professionally representing LPC to contractors, vendors, suppliers, and the public
- Effectively documenting communications with the customer via email, saving records for LPC file storage
Required Skills / Experience:
- Solid understanding of construction management fundamentals, including project management, scheduling, estimating, safety data sheets, contracting, and site safety
- A desire for continuing professional development and continuing education opportunities to keep current with industry standards
- An ability to integrate technology on the job, including using a smartphone or tablet to quickly process information between the Project Team, customers, and field crews
- An understanding of quality assurance/quality control documentation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Organizational skills with a strong attention to detail
- Time management and task prioritization skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A positive and professional demeanor, delivering excellent customer service to diverse users
Preferred Skills / Experience:
- 2 years’ experience in the construction industry
- College or University degree or certificate in construction management or construction engineering.

This is a salaried position, with a starting salary ranging from $67,500 - $82,500 per year, depending on experience. LPC provides generous benefits, including paid vacation, sick time, military, and parental leave. A 401(k)-retirement plan is provided with a matching contribution after one year of employment. Schedule is operations dependent, generally Monday – Friday.
