JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for teaching students and managing, directing, and supervising Special Education (SPED) teachers and the school's SPED program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise, direct, and manage Special Education (SPED) students, Teachers, and the school's SPED program.
- Compile and review comprehensive evaluation data required to determine the appropriate eligibility of individual exceptional students.
- Provide parent education information about types of programs, the locations of such programs, the district's policies and procedures for determining eligibility and placement, and their rights as a parent of a SPED student.
- Serve as liaison among SPED, regular education, and parents.
- Assist with the development and implementation of inclusive procedures for the schools.
- Provide technical assistance to schools in identification, evaluation/placement, and/or IEP, ITP, FSP, or EP disputes.
- Implement procedures for monitoring special populations, including students with disabilities, Section 504, English Learners, and gifted students.
- Accurately demonstrate knowledge of curriculum and instruction best practices.
- Initiate and maintain effective instructional coaching training and development.
- Initiate and maintain effective professional development of teachers.
- Initiate and maintain professional learning communities and support teachers in their leadership and implementation of the PLC process.
- Appropriately utilizes a variety of teaching methods and resources.
- Establish and oversee quality assurance and continuous improvement processes.
Coordinate instructional materials, supervise its implementation by teachers, and assess the curriculum's overall effectiveness.
- Demonstrate a willingness to examine and implement change, as appropriate.

- Assist teachers and team members in interpreting data and designing approaches to improve student achievement and instruction.
- Ensure that the school curriculum is aligned with state standards and Curriculum Maps are effectively updated and utilized.
- Collaborate with school leaders and state team members in strategic, long-range and short-range planning for schools.
- Collaborate with administrators to provide leadership and vision for a school-wide academic program.
- Participates in school-based leadership opportunities (i.e.: team meeting, lead teacher meeting, etc.).
- Convenes scheduled meetings with Guidance Counselors and Principal to discuss individual cases and the well-being of the student body and overall student culture.
- Deal with the issues of school management, student activities and services.
- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
- Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Ensure that students are adequately supervised during noninstructional periods.
- Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
- Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
- Master’s degree in Educational Leadership (eligible for licensure in TN).
- Possession of valid teaching certification (as appropriate).
- Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years successful teaching experience (may include Student Teaching Internship experience).
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Command of grades/subject specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation and feedback techniques.
- Understanding of and commitment to company values.
- Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
- Effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
- Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- May travel within or outside of state up to 25% of the time.
- Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the school's salary and benefit policy. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the school. The Director of Student Services position is a grant funded position covered by CARES Act II and is anticipated to be funded through April 30, 2023. At the end of the grant funding term there is no guarantee of continued employment on this position.
FLSA OVERTIME CATEGORY:
Job is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
