The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Corrections Officer. The successful applicant will perform the duties and responsibilities of a Corrections Officer.

Starting wages are $24.46/hour or $53,420.64/annually (current 1/1/2024)

Shift schedules are 12 hour days, in a rotating 2 week schedule. Officers work 15 days a month with this cycle.

Probationary officers will be assigned to a day shift (6am-6pm) or night shift (6pm-6am) based on operational needs. After probation, officers can bid on shifts based on seniority.

The Winnebago County Jail is the 2nd largest county jail in the state, with a bed size of 1,313 and an average daily population of 750 inmates.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a citizen of the United States.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must possess a valid driver’s license upon which the applicant may legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of Illinois.

Must not have been convicted of a felony nor any other crime which would prevent the applicant from attending a certified academy for basic police training under the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILSC 705/1 et seq.) or which would prevent the applicant from legally possessing a firearm.
