General Summary: Seattle Pacific University (SPU) is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Finance. This pivotal role provides strategic leadership, business acumen, and financial expertise for the University's Finance Office. The AVP of Finance will lead the Financial Planning and Accounting teams, ensuring robust financial disciplines, compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and excellence in policy and processes. This position supports the University's mission through the careful management of financial resources, fostering partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, and driving continuous improvement in financial systems and processes.
Essential Job Duties Include:
Organizational Leadership:
- Design, establish, and maintain the organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the Finance Office's goals.

Lead, direct, and oversee the hiring, retaining, mentoring, and support of Finance Office staff.

Contribute to ongoing Workday (Finance) implementation.
Financial Planning:
- Lead the financial planning process and develop long-term financial projections.

Define, plan, and deliver budget analysis, reporting, and expenditure control.
Financial Performance Analysis:
- Lead analysis and reporting of financial performance and trends.

Support and influence decision-making to ensure the University's financial viability.
Policy and Internal Controls:
- Develop, communicate, and implement University-level financial policies and internal controls over financial reporting.
Financial Systems:
- Support the strategy and lead the deployment and operation of University-level financial systems and related tools.
Accounting and Reporting:
- Serve as the Chief Accountant, directing Accounting and Reporting operations, ensuring adherence to GAAP.

Direct annual financial statement audits, regulatory audits, and accreditation processes.
Internal and External Reporting:
- Direct internal management reporting and implement accepted allocation methodologies.

Oversee all external financial reporting, including federal tax returns and reports to funders and grantors.
Grant Management:
- Oversee the Office of Special Programs: Grants and Contracts, managing federal, state, and private grant awards.
Debt and Treasury Management:
- Direct the management of institutional debt and treasury operations, including cash flow forecasting and banking relationships.
Contract Review:
- Review and analyze major contractual obligations to ensure consistency with financial goals and compliance with policies.
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Four-year degree in Accounting or Finance

Eight to ten years of financial accounting experience, including at least three years in management

Licensure/Certification: CPA license (active or inactive)

Strong GAAP knowledge.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Advanced Excel skills, ability to work with MS Access, and adaptability to various cloud-based software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance, or MBA

Six years of financial planning and accounting experience

CMA or CGMA designatio

Public accounting experience.

University or not-for-profit financial experience.

Direct experience with 200 CFR, federal funding requirements, and private foundation grants.

ERP implementation experience and familiarity with the Banner educational system.
Additional Information:
Position will remain open until filled.
Salary: $145,000 - $175,000 DOE
This is a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes generous contributions to an employee HSA account and a 7% contribution to a retirement account, for eligible employees, with immediate vesting in the plan. Tuition discount program (50% - 90%) available for the employee and qualified immediate family members.
