The Cedars is looking for a finance/accounting leader to join its team as Controller. Reporting to the CFO and managing a staff of three, the Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and reporting functions and the preparation of financial statements in accordance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Responsibilities:
Staff Management and Leadership: Provides leadership and management to the accounting team, which includes an Accounting and Payroll Manager, and billing staff. Ensures that the team has the support and resources needed to meet departmental and organizational goals and expectations and brings a service-focused approach to their work.
Accounting Management, Budgeting, and Financial Reporting: Oversees the timely and accurate preparation and presentation of monthly financial statements, as well as year-end reporting. Monitors cash flow and makes recommendations to CFO. Coordinates the development of annual operating and capital budgets and monitors and reports on actual vs. budget results. Works with outside audit firm on the completing the annual audit and the filing of the annual IRS Form 990.
Systems and Policies: Works closely with the CFO and other internal leaders to develop and implement financial policies and procedures that improve efficiency and effectiveness in delivering financial information to guide organizational decision making and management. Develops systems and internal controls to ensure data integrity and mitigate organizational risk.
Audit and Compliance: Coordinates the annual audit with external CPA firm. Oversees the preparation of annual Medicare and Medicaid cost reports. Maintains oversight and direction of all Medicare/ Medicaid related activities to ensure maximization of reimbursement and compliance with applicable laws.
Qualified candidates will have:
- 5 + of experience in the healthcare accounting field, to include supervision, with progressively increasing responsibilities.
- Successful record of staff leadership and development.
- Strong analytical skills using Microsoft excel
- Working knowledge of Microsoft GP accounting software and ADP payroll software.
Strongly prefer candidates have:
- Experience related to Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues in a health care environment.
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the MaineCare and Medicare programs.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations for residential, skilled, and long-term care.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required.
