Position Overview: The Champaign County Chamber of Commerce is seeking a dynamic and creative Communications and Events Director to execute the Chamber’s brand, voice, and tone. The ideal candidate will be responsible for graphic design, marketing and communications, media relations, and other duties essential to promoting and maintaining the Chamber’s presence and initiatives.
Essential Job Functions:
Graphic Design:
- Collaborate with staff to evaluate, establish, and implement event and program materials.
- Enforce design standards across all Chamber materials.
- Design various informational pieces such as legislative documents, logos, letterheads, annual reports, invitations, decals, and more.
- Work with Chamber members and vendors for print work; troubleshoot printing errors and manage promotional piece budgets.
- Prepare RFPs for print and supplies; analyze and recommend vendors.
- Design website content and prepare advertising for Chamber publications.
- Design and manage all of the Chamber’s printed publications.
Communication & Events:
- Maintain and update the Chamber’s online presence, including the website and social media platforms.
- Serve as the liaison between the Chamber and the website developer.
- Manage website enhancement orders from Chamber members.
- Capture photos at events and functions.
- Write, edit, and send e-Connections and email blasts.
- Create engaging content for all publications.
- Develop strategies to maintain member interest and attract community-wide attention to the Chamber.
- Ensure all Chamber materials align with the organization’s mission and AP Guidelines.
- Create, manage and implement events for the Chamber such as the annual meeting, Leadership program and annual golf outing.
Media Relations:
- Act as the official “voice” of the Chamber through press releases on advocacy, member news, events, and programs.
- Craft compelling stories about the Chamber and its members for social media and publications.
- Write and edit mass emails, speeches, website content, and other organizational materials.
- Proofread and edit all text from staff, serving as the final reviewer.
- Prepare remarks or materials for the president & CEO as needed.
- Serve as the liaison between the Chamber and the media, handling press releases on behalf of Chamber members.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ensure timely delivery of materials to members.
- Provide support to other Chamber staff.
- Prepare and adhere to budgets.
- Secure sponsorships or advertising as needed.
- Manage the Marketing Committee and prepare meeting minutes.
- Submit a written report each month for Chamber board meetings.
- Record member testimonials after each event or program.
- Retain Chamber members through excellent customer service and outreach.
- Supervise interns and volunteers.
- Populate Weblink Connect with membership data.
- Serve as an ambassador for the Chamber in the community.
Requirements:
- 2-3 years of proven experience.
- 4-year degree or equivalent in Journalism, Graphic Design, Marketing, or Visual Communication.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator (CS6 preferred).
- Experience with websites and online content management.
- Understanding of professional and in-house printing design requirements.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
Non-essential Job Functions:
- Represent the Chamber at events and community meetings.
- Develop a network with other Chamber membership professionals.
- Attend community functions as a Chamber representative.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
