New Jersey’s academic health center, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) takes an integrated approach to educating students, providing clinical care, and conducting research, all with the goal of improving human health. Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow for NJMS-Microbiology. The departments goal is to characterize putative ER-shaping proteins of Plasmodium, their functions in the parasite’s cell biology and their effect on parasite virulence. We also aim to develop inhibitors of parasite kinases as drugs for malaria prophylaxis. This role will use tools of molecular genetics (gene knockouts, conditional protein depletion, CRISPR editing), imaging (confocal and super- resolution microscopy), proteomics in P. berghei and P. falciparum, protein expression, enzyme activity assays and parasite growth assays.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Perform scientific research (protein purification, biochemistry, enzymatic assays, tissue culture, cell biology, light and fluorescence microscopy, molecular biology, rodent handling, mosquito
- dissection) under the PI’s guidance.
- Communicates regularly with the P.I.
- Maintains detailed and accurate experimental records.
- Participates and presents in journal clubs, seminars, and conferences.
- Reads current scientific and technical literature relevant to the laboratory’s mission.
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers compliance standards as they appear in RBHS’ Corporate
- Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers regulations, laws and policies as they
- presently exist and as they change or are modified.
