SUMMARY
Responsible for all corporate accounting activities, coordinates activities of accounting office support professionals, and oversees the accounting department by performing the following duties. This position addresses deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and forecasting activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.
The primary duty of the position is managing operations and personnel in the Accounting Department. Currently this involves supervising the work of 7 - 8 full-time employees and leading a comparable size team is preferred.
The Director of Accounting is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. Responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.
Formally recognize the accomplishments of others when they display character traits valued by the organization.
Develop and oversee a character recognition program carried out by accounting department staff. Hold people supervised accountable for recognizing others.
Maintain an inventory of office equipment for all corporate offices. Make recommendations for the purchase of needed equipment.
Interview, hire and train all accounting support professionals. Oversee and spot check the accuracy of the work of all accounting support professionals. Make recommendations for employment promotions, transfers or separations of the accounting support professional staff.
Recognize exceptional performance, conduct performance correction and evaluate performance for accounting support professionals.
Report irregularities in office or accounting procedures to the Executive Director and/or the CEO.
Receive, review and audit timesheets for the administration department. Enter payroll additions, deletions and changes for administration department. Process payroll for Administration.
Oversee production of W-2, 1099, etc. reports for distribution.
Review and analyze all checks written. Maintain a signature stamp to stamp all checks.
Prepare quarterly and year-end and all other required Federal and State reporting.
Maintain the General Ledger and approve all journal entries. Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
Generate monthly Financial Reports for the Executive Director and CEO.
Review monthly expenses and revenues at the consumer level to assure all revenue has been received. Initiate appropriate action when questions arise.
Prepare for and participate in annual financial and 401K audits to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.
Maintain and reconcile Tulsa office petty cash.
Support the Executive Director with special projects and workflow process improvements.
Develop and implement new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the Accounting Department.
Attend, present at, and actively participate in Management & Leadership meetings and other meetings as assigned. Present at Board of Directors meetings.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 3 to 10 full-time employees in the Accounting Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and correcting employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Monitor and analyze department work to ensure efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

The Director of Accounting must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
