The Triage Registered Nurse (RN) position presents an exciting opportunity for RN’s to advance the art and science of nursing through their professional practice and leadership. The RN utilizes their knowledge, skills, and compassion in promoting safe passage for patients seeking advice and medical services. Is responsible for addressing incoming calls from patients, physicians, and healthcare organizations. The RN practices professional nursing as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing, Texas Nurse Practice Act and by organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines. This position is considered Hybrid/Remote out of Austin, Tx which means that individuals in this position may work both at an approved offsite location and Onsite at a primary location or multiple locations in the greater Austin area, based on Business Needs.

Salary: $39-$43 an hour depending on years of nursing experience
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties
- Collaborates with the patient’s care team including, primary care team, specialists, home care, hospital team, and any others involved with the patient’s care to optimize clinical outcomes.
- Provides telephonic triage to patients seeking medical services and education.
- The nurse will properly assess and advise using nursing judgement, software protocols and triage guidelines.
- Functions independently, effectively provides telephonic triage calls using safe and cost-effective measures.
- Responds to calls in a professional, empathetic, timely manner.
- Using strong listening skills evaluates the callers understanding of current condition and the ability to follow through with instructions given.
- Document all communication telephone contact with patients, families, and providers regarding orders, reports, and care in EMR.
- Serves as a patient advocate and as an extension of the patient care team.
- Triages and processes messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and associate practitioners, to include but not limited to, pharmacy requests, medication questions, test results, medical questions and concerns and responds as directed by the provider and documents in the EMR.
- Per protocol correct any errors on diagnostic orders.
- Follow up with all abnormal labs, abnormal diagnostic results, medication/pharmacy request and patient calls backs.
- Participates in the orientation and training of new employees.
- Meets defined productivity standards as defined.
- Enhance patient and physician’s experience while using AIDET with every interaction.
- Enhances the patient experience and avoid delays in care by supporting Provider teams with in-basket management and refill medications in a timely manner following established protocols as needed.
- Assist with evidence-based policies and procedures related to triage. Supports quality improvements to enhance the quality of care for patients and their families.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement projects in order to better serve the patient, family and healthcare system to improve the quality of service provided.
- Attends staff meetings and education offerings in person or online as required.
- Supports organizational initiatives to promote and maintain a strong positive workplace culture.
- Adheres to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements and to other governing agency regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

High degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of nursing and documentation requirements.
High level of problem-solving skills to better serve patients and staff.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Strong commitment to quality, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Proficient in applying Microsoft Office software tools in a systems environment.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
- One year nursing experience in an ambulatory clinic or and/or hospital setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of Joint Commission standards, HIPAA regulations, and the Quadruple Aim
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Holds and maintains these certifications as a professional. Lapsing/expiration of these
certifications/licensure will result in suspension of work:
1. Unrestricted Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas
2. Basic Life Support (BLS) - Obtained through approved American Heart Association or Red Cross.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- 2 years’ experience in an ambulatory clinic performing telephonic or in-person triage
- Experience with Epic
